I entered the field of social work 10+ years ago to advocate for and assist others in finding their voice. I quickly learned I was able to use my skills to help clients overcome obstacles and navigate broken systems. Over the course of my career, the need to address mental health disparities became apparent, as did the lack of available providers to do so. I became a licensed therapist to help clients live a life free of shame, one that is authentic without needing anyone else’s approval.

I have been doing clinical counseling for 28 years, and unlike most providers, I have a doctorate degree in counseling. I believe that the extra education helps me to provide more thorough, informed, and helpful feedback for clients. I currently provide therapy on a broad range of issues including trauma, anxiety, substance abuse and mood disorders. I am also comfortable working with sexual, gender, and eating issues. I have experience as well with neurodivergence and autism spectrum clients. I believe in giving you tangible feedback and practical solutions. I intend to demystify the process of counseling so that you can truly benefit from your work. In terms of my own self-care I enjoy walking outdoors as a means of reconnecting with nature. Recently, I rediscovered tennis, and have been playing doubles with a local group twice a week. John Checkett is the first man in history to earn a master's degree in Women's Studies in Florida. How many times has this happened to you: You've made an innocent remark, and the other person distorts it and blames you for the distortion, not for what you actually said. That's called the Strawman Argument and is a common problem of communication -- communication typically being the single biggest problem couples have. Communication is one of the social sciences, and one of John's specialties, along with Women's Studies, Pastoral Psychology and Clinical Social Work. He helps high-functioning men and women free themselves from low self-esteem and negative thinking. As a former officer in the Theosophical Society and a former professional psychic, he firmly believes in the value of Spirituality to Mental Health. He can also help with exercise and nutrition, to help create a holistically healthy situation for you. Whether you're dealing with anxiety or depression, relationship problems, or just feel overwhelmed, Prof Checkett is here to help -- even with time management! You might feel bit nervous about starting therapy, but he's extremely easy to talk to, knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects, and very media-literate. Most people feel better after a session. In a short time we can get you unstuck and back to living a happy life again.

You may be going through big changes in life, fatherhood-motherhood, new marriage, professional challenges, or facing illness, getting older, losing people close to you, moving to a new place, starting over after divorce, or adjusting after a breakup or a change in your military life. These experiences can make anyone wonder who they are, how they relate to others, how they make decisions, and how they deal with grief, change, and conflict. Life keeps giving me chances to adjust to changes in my body, feelings, thoughts, and spirit. Some days are easier than others, and that’s just part of being human. I see it as a way to keep getting stronger, more flexible, and better at handling life. When my emotions feel really strong, I may feel pulled in different directions. But reaching out, connecting with someone, and taking action usually helps me stay resilient and keep moving forward.

I completed my Masters in 2005, while also starting my journey in the field in 2004. I spent a year working in Opiate addiction but my true passion was children and families. I moved on to intensive services, working with underserved children and their families in rural areas, from 2005-2007. After leaving that position, I moved onto a company doing similar work. where I continued to work with children, families and adults that were underserved for 5 more years. I provided therapy in homes, schools and the office setting. I began to focus in on Trauma work as well as anxiety disorders to include OCD and all other anxiety disorders. After spending nearly 10 years in the field, I decided to get my license in the state of Florida (LMHC-Licensed Mental Health Counselor) and move into a management role where I worked for the past 13 years while also maintaining private clients. I supervise therapists, working to become licensed, so I spend a lot of time consulting on cases of all kinds. In this time I was also trained in various forms of trauma based cognitive behavioral approaches as well as EMDR (still learning however).

My name is Lorena Klahr, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals, couples, and families navigating emotional and relational challenges. I specialize in communication, helping couples understand their emotional patterns, express themselves more clearly, and rebuild connection during times of conflict or distance. I also work with individuals and families experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and major life transitions. My approach is rooted in creating a space where clients can better understand themselves, process their emotions, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. I have extensive experience supporting clients through grief and loss, including my work in hospice settings. I help individuals process the loss of a loved one in a way that feels honoring, supportive, and paced to their unique needs. In addition, I specialize in postpartum support for individuals and couples adjusting to parenthood. This includes emotional support around birth experiences, changes in identity and family roles, and the mental and emotional aspects of lactation and early parenthood. My work is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I aim to create a safe space where clients feel truly heard while also gaining clarity, tools, and insight to improve their relationships and overall well-being.

Hi! I'm Solange. It is a true honor for me to be a part of your healing journey. I truly believe in our human need for a listening ear and the healing that comes from it. As a person-centered therapist, I consciously work to see your world through your eyes. This allows room for the safe space necessary to process your unique story. With a flexible approach to therapy, I can use the most effective methods to fit your needs. From coping with life stressors to digging deep, I go at your pace. I began my career at the Trauma Resolution Center where I gained my specialty in treating adult survivors of crime, childhood trauma, and PTSD. I use Trauma Incident Reduction techniques along with EMDR to address current-day symptoms that stem from your past. I have also practiced in outpatient PHP and IOP programs where I focused on providing group therapy with a variety of populations and issues. .
