Hi! I’m Shavarne (Shavon), a Licensed Mental Health counselor and I have been practicing for about 5 years now! I received my Master’s degree from Walden University. Mental Health is extremely important to me which is how I got in this field. I enjoy working with a variety of clients who come from various backgrounds! I enjoy assisting my clients in reaching their goals!
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first session will consist of information gathering like why you came to therapy? Some background info like where you live, past and current mental health issues, substance abuse, any clubs or organizations you are a part of, family, and any past or current legal involvement.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I believe my greatest strengths are active listening and expressing empathy. No one can walk in your shoes and no one can tell you how to feel about whatever you are going through.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I typically work with adults who struggle with substance abuse, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, adjustment disorders (event that has occurred recently that stressed you out), and domestic violence. I am also open to working with individuals with unique situations that maybe I haven’t encountered yet.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help with anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and many more issues to identify your feelings, try to change negative thought patterns, and utilize healthy coping strategies.
Motivational Interviewing
I use this treatment method to ask open ended questions and provide a safe space for open dialogue to normalize clients’ experiences using active listening.
