Emotional pain can sometimes feel worse than any physical pain you have experienced. I work with adolescents to senior adults. As a strengths-based therapist, my approach is to use solution-focused techniques in guiding you to realize the tools and skills you possess to overcome the issues you are facing. My goal for everyone I encounter is to offer hope and healing along your journey of discovering a life of fulfillment and peace. My approach to counseling is mainly from a person-centered, non-authoritative style that allows clients to process, discover, and find their own solutions. By fostering a non-judgmental space, clients are met where they are and viewed as the experts in their lives. Through various evidence-based counseling techniques, clients are empowered to challenge internal thinking processes and motivated to create positive change. As clients discover how to utilize their inner strengths to bring about these transformations, autonomy increases, and independence is fortified. Marisa Colon, LMHC, is a licensed mental health counselor in Florida who has been practicing since 2021. She graduated with her Master’s of Science and Education Specialists Degree in Human and Counseling Services from Florida State University and a Bachelors in Psychology. Marisa believes that therapy is not “one size fits all” and that it is important for the client to have equal part in their therapeutic treatment, these are their goals that they are working toward together. She utilizes an eclectic approach to meet clients’ needs including cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, motivational interviewing with a person-centered approach. I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida in 2001. Over the past two decades, I’ve worked in various therapeutic settings—including community mental health centers, domestic violence programs, private practice, and school-based counseling. Since 2003, I’ve served as an ESE Counselor with the Broward County School Board, supporting students with special needs. As a parent of two adult children with special needs, I bring a deep sense of compassion and understanding to my work.
