Hi there! My name is Alexandra, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University. I have over 7 years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and children in a variety of settings; with specialized experience working with Veterans and those currently serving in the military, including active duty, Guard and Reserve components; as well as survivors of domestic violence. I currently offer individual therapy, focused on helping clients navigate feelings of anxiety, depression or overwhelm, life transitions or other ongoing stressors, as well as working through traumatic experiences. I have a particular focus on helping people cope with the emotional and psychological effects of difficult or traumatic events. I am committed to providing compassionate and effective therapy, in a safe, supportive, and nonjudgemental space. My goal is to support my clients in developing greater self-understanding and growth, supporting change, and fostering healing. If you are struggling with the effects of stress, depressed mood, anxiety, or trauma, or just want to be able to talk to someone in a supportive and nonjudgmental space - I encourage you to reach out for help, you do not have to face these challenges alone. Life is often full of an incredible mix of significant positives and profound challenges, often these challenges are filled with anxiety, overwhelm, or distress, that can at times, feel impossible to navigate. My goal is to help and support you, while you learn to navigate these challenges and work toward healing, happiness, and growth. Please remember, as you are taking this step to connect with a therapist, while it may not have been the easiest of decisions, the decision to seek help is a sign of profound strength, never one of weakness. You deserve to feel happy and well.

Telehealth Tips If you're used to seeing your mental health professional in their office, it may take some time to adjust to this new process. Take heart that our patients typically find video conferencing beneficial. Make a list of the main symptoms you want to address in the conversation. Also be sure to indicate when your symptoms started, what tends to exacerbate them, and what, if anything, seems to soothe them. Write down questions. Remember that mental health appointments are a two-way street. This is your chance to ask questions you have about your symptoms, brain scan, diagnosis, and treatment. Having a list of questions ready can help you remember to ask them. Have your medical and psychiatric history handy. Your therapist may ask questions about past medical or psychological issues in addition to inquiring about names and dosages of medications you have taken. Having this information available can save precious minutes during your appointment so you can spend more time talking about how you are going to get healthy. Minimize distractions and choose a quiet, comfortable spot One of the best strategies to ensure a meaningful appointment is to eliminate distractions. Hi there and welcome! As we go through different stages and circumstances in our lives, there are moments when we face difficult challenges and just need a safe space to overcome our barriers. Within my five years of experience, I have helped clients and families develop their unique coping skills for symptoms related to anxiety, depression, anger, behavioral dysregulation, trauma, and stress. Additionally, I have worked in various settings including communities, homes, medical offices, and remote video/telehealth. In my role as a bilingual (English & Spanish-speaking) clinical social worker, I utilize several methods of treatment with a sense of empathy and compassion for the young adults (ages 16-25 y/o), adults, and families I serve. These methods of treatment and approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Family Systems Theory, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I look forward to working with you and/or your family as a team with a focus on healing, skills building, and reaching your goals.

Mental health treatment should not be traumatic. I am drawn to clinical work with individuals who have been historically mislabeled and misunderstood. I have successfully worked with many individuals whose prior negative treatment experiences gave them every reason in the world not to trust me. I have also provided effective counsel to emergency room physicians and nurses. I recognize the degree of stigma (often self-imposed) associated with medical professionals seeking mental health treatment. My experience in psychiatric emergency services has given me a true appreciation of the unique stressors front line workers face. I have been working in community mental health for 26 years. For the past 12, I have evaluated patients in psychiatric crisis in the local emergency room. One of the most frustrating aspects of this work was the warm hand off and discharge plan. Unfortunately, the need for qualified and compassionate clinicians far exceeds the existing resources.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in children, adolescents, couples, individuals, and family counseling. I studied at Fairfield University where I received my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. My primary therapy methods are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy where I work with clients to discuss presenting problems and issues and collaboratively determine what the ideal solution is by the use of questions and exploration. I believe in creating an environment for all clients that feels welcome, comfortable, and safe. By creating this kind of environment I hope to enhance the process of healing and change for the client. I also believe that the client is the expert in the story of their own lives and so it is important for me to take an active listening role and encourage the client to maximize the skills that already exist within them to minimize the problems that exist in their everyday lives.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Connecticut rather than a city like Hartford?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Connecticut from New Haven to Springfield! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Connecticut.

Will my therapist take Harvard Pilgrim/UnitedHealthcare?

Yes! If you use Harvard Pilgrim/UnitedHealthcare you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Harvard Pilgrim/UnitedHealthcare you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
