Hello! My name is Denise Simpson, LCSW. I have been working in the helping profession for 28 years. I absolutely see being a therapist as my "calling." This is the job I was created to do, and I love it. I have an undergraduate degree in Music Therapy and my Master's in Social Work. I look forward to meeting and establishing a positive relationship with every client that I work with in therapy. I am here to learn your story and what areas of your life you may be struggling with. I don't "fix" anyone or "tell people what to do." I am hear to listen, help one process, support and guide from "Point A to Point B."
In our first session together, we will spend time getting to know each other. We will talk about what you are looking to get out of therapy and I also would like to know if you have any past experiences with being in therapy and how that was for you. I will share about my background and my philosophy as a therapist.
I am passionate about what I do as a therapist. Nothing gives me more joy, than seeing the changes and growth that clients make. I am a good listener and I am always present and curious. I am non-judgmental and truly care about every single one of my clients.
I love working with women of color, adolescent girls, young adult male and female and also men of color. He
I have had extensive training in Narrative Practice. I believe that one's experiences can shape them. I believe people have the answer's within themselves and as a therapist, I help to process and guide one through the healing process. It is possible to create a "new narrative" that can lead to healthy living in all areas of one's life. Experiences shape one's story and new stories can be created, while learning from the past and connecting how it shape's a person in the moment.
As a clinician I use the DBT modules to help individuals coming to therapy and want to learn Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills. I also incorporate Mindfulness into sessions, so one can start to use Mindfulness outside of therapy.
One's thoughts matter. Using CBT, I help client's look at their "thinking process." From looking at the "thinking process", reframing of thoughts can be developed for better outcomes. I also help clients uncover where their thoughts originated.
