Hi, I’m Bryan McHenry. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. First and foremost, I applaud your courage in seeking mental health counseling. In this season of your life, you might’ve discovered a lot of uncomfortable feelings and thoughts. That is very difficult to manage alone. Coming into the counseling process is a new beginning of wholeness and healing. Thank you for allowing me the honor to be apart of that journey. Though I’ve worked with a variety of populations and settings, my primary work includes men’s health/issues, depression, anxiety, grief, anger management, and life coaching. I would be honored to work with you during this time of your life. Let’s get to work.
In our first session, we will start off with a brief introduction of each other. We will then review my informed consent and go over the basic structure of each session. Then we will dive into the specific challenges you face which will then be tailored into a treatment plan and goals for our time together.
I like to meet people where they are in life. When there isn’t a safe outlet for someone to share their struggles and pain, people tend to compartmentalize their thoughts and emotions. This is especially true for men. With that said, I am truly honored when someone share’s their story to me.
Men's issues, Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Life Coaching, Anger Management.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
This is my primary modality within my practice. CBT is one of the most effective and evidenced based researched counseling technique. It covers a variety of presenting issues and many of my clients have benefited from this modality.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness is a great practice for those seeking to be more present and regulate emotions. Breathing and guided imagery is often used with this practice.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
We will use your strengths to develop coping skills to better manage your stress and other presenting issues.
Reality Therapy
We will focus on what is in your control versus what is not in your control. A common intervention known as WDEP will be used to help manage your symptoms.

I was overwhelmed with events as it came time for my therapy to begin. Brian calmly told me to take time if I needed it and that he would be waiting for me. Eventually I gathered the strength to being the session and it went great I am so happy he stuck around.

Brian took his time to get to know me. I was so nervous but he quickly put me at ease and made me feel comfortable. He helps me see myself. He is inciteful and kind. It left me feeling "why did I not do this earlier."
