Hello! I'm La-Retha Brown, LPC, and I'm glad you're here. Seeking therapy is a courageous first step, and my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to move toward the life you want. I believe that healing begins when people feel safe enough to be honest about where they are while also discovering the strengths they already possess. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, stress, trauma, self-esteem concerns, and difficulties managing emotions. Together, we'll identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, develop practical coping strategies, and create meaningful goals that align with your values. My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and solution-focused. I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness techniques. I tailor treatment to meet your unique needs because I believe therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Whether you're navigating a difficult season, rebuilding after loss, strengthening relationships, or simply seeking personal growth, I am committed to walking alongside you throughout the process. Together, we'll work to help you shift from surviving to thriving—and empower you to shift the power back to yourself. I look forward to being part of your journey.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it's completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. During our first session, my priority is getting to know you, not just the challenges that brought you here, but the person behind them. We'll talk about what's been weighing on you, what has helped (or hasn't), and what you hope will be different as a result of therapy. This first conversation isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating a foundation built on trust, understanding, and collaboration. Together, we'll identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and develop a plan that reflects your unique needs and values. My hope is that you'll leave our first session feeling heard, encouraged, and confident that you don't have to navigate life's challenges alone. Wherever you are in your journey, I'll meet you there and together, we'll work to help you shift from surviving to thriving and reclaim the power that's already within you.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a genuine connection while also helping clients move toward meaningful change. I believe therapy should be both supportive and practical. While I provide a compassionate space to process life's challenges, I also help clients develop realistic strategies they can apply outside of our sessions. With experience in education and mental health, I understand that every person's story is unique. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor each session to meet your individual needs, strengths, and goals. I value collaboration and believe that lasting change happens when clients feel heard, challenged, and empowered. My approach stands out because I don't believe therapy is about "fixing" people. I believe it's about helping people recognize the resilience and strengths they already possess. Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship concerns, life transitions, grief, or personal growth, my goal is to help you gain clarity, build confidence, and create lasting change. Together, we'll work to help you shift from surviving to thriving by equipping you with practical tools, fostering resilience, and empowering you to reclaim the power that's already within you.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to support adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are ready to create meaningful change in their lives. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in unhealthy patterns. Others are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, low self-esteem, or difficulty managing stress and emotions. Whether you're facing a specific challenge or simply seeking personal growth, I provide a supportive, collaborative environment where you can gain insight, develop practical coping skills, and build confidence in your ability to move forward. I work best with clients who are open to self-exploration, willing to learn new strategies, and motivated to take small, intentional steps toward their goals. My goal is not only to help you feel better in the moment but to equip you with lasting tools that promote resilience, healthier relationships, and long-term emotional well-being. Together, we'll build on your strengths, overcome obstacles, and help you create the life you envision for yourself.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we'll identify unhelpful thinking patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression, or relationship challenges and replace them with healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. My approach to CBT is collaborative, practical, and tailored to your individual needs. I don't believe in simply talking about problems. I believe in equipping clients with tools they can use in everyday life. Through guided exploration, skill-building, and real-life application, my goal is to help you develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and build confidence in your ability to navigate life's challenges long after therapy ends.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is based on the belief that meaningful change can begin by focusing on your strengths, existing resources, and future goals rather than remaining stuck in the problem. While understanding your challenges is important, I also believe it's equally important to identify what's already working and build upon those successes. My approach is collaborative, encouraging, and goal-oriented. Together, we'll identify clear, achievable goals, recognize your existing strengths, and develop practical solutions that help you move forward with confidence. I use thoughtful questions to help clients gain new perspectives, discover their own capabilities, and make meaningful progress one step at a time. I believe that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to help you uncover the strengths you already possess, build on them, and empower you to create lasting change. Whether you're facing a life transition, relationship challenges, anxiety, or feeling stuck, we'll work together to help you move from where you are to where you want to be.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-Centered Therapy is grounded in the belief that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing, and positive change when they feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood. My role is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you can openly explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. I approach each session with empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard, recognizing that no two people or life experiences are the same. Rather than telling you what to do, I work alongside you to help you gain greater self-awareness, discover your strengths, and build confidence in making decisions that align with your values and goals. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, collaboration, and mutual respect. As we work together, my goal is to help you feel empowered, understood, and supported as you navigate life's challenges and move toward the life you want to create.
