Hello My name is Matt. I have been passionate about helping men grow more into their true unsimulated selves since I was in graduate school. Over the years I have worked in various treatment venues. These include Public Schools, Community Mental Health Clinics, Psychiatric Hospitals, Intensive Outpatient/Partial Hospitalization Clinics, In Home Family Therapy, and Private Practice. Of course most of the places mentioned were not exclusive in treating only men. A significant amount of time was spent working with children and adolescents which has given me a great foundation for working with adults which is primary for me today. I am now working in my passion full time of treating men and adolescent boys. I am resolute about ensuring a secure environment where no man is shamed or blamed regarding events in his life so he can engage honestly with the turmoil that hinder him from advancing into the his true self.
A great number of mental health practitioners put emphasis on learning and using coping skills so the client can better manage his day to day life. Abba Psychotherapy Group does not dismiss coping skills, especially in the early stages of treatment. Abba Psychotherapy Group invites and encourages men to go beyond coping skills by being honest and stepping into the greater risk of going deep into the wound(s) and move toward its resolution(s) and a better life.
Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) is foundational to the other types of therapies used to help bring resolution to men. Additional treatment methods include but are not limited to are: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Brain Spotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Having a male Therapist to work with men brings a dynamic that can draw out the best in a man. I do not disparage any of my female colleagues and what they do. For some men they are paramount to facilitate the needed healing. I bring a unique vibrancy that experienced in a male to male context.
