Hello, my name is Ricardo Guzman, LCSW. I identify as openly gay and was born in Honduras, but have also lived in Hong Kong, China; St. Paul, MN; and New York City. What inspired me to become a therapist were my own struggles with Coming-out of the closet, experiencing anxiety and depression, having my first heartbreak, as well as dealing with addiction (I am Sober), so I've been there myself. Therapy has helped me find healing in my own life and I know it can do the same to you. I will help you get back to self-love and acceptance.

I’m a psychodynamic therapist who works in a warm, relational, and insight-driven way. I help clients understand the deeper emotional patterns, internal conflicts, and early experiences that shape how they feel and respond today. My approach is grounded in curiosity, compassion, and a belief that real change comes from understanding the meaning behind our struggles—not just managing symptoms. In our work together, I pay attention to the themes that show up in your relationships, your history, and even in the therapeutic relationship itself. These patterns often hold the key to why certain feelings or situations keep repeating. By exploring them at a comfortable pace, we create room for clarity, emotional relief, and lasting growth. Clients come to me for help with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, family conflict, self-esteem, and difficult life transitions. I offer a thoughtful, steady space where you can explore your inner world, strengthen your sense of self, and move toward a more authentic and meaningful life.

Allinllachu (Hello in Quechua)! My name is Joicy and I am a Queer Quechua Peruvian immigrant. Community takes the center stage in my life’s work. Whether that is inviting clients to think of their community and cultivate intentional interpersonal relationships or thinking of our collective joy and grief, I am guided and guide people to explore the self in relation to community. It is within our circles that through conversation and exploration we are all able to become aware of patterns created through our life experiences, develop healthy ways to navigate interactions, and have the opportunity to live a stable and healthy life. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I utilize a combination of practices with a focus on liberation psychology, psychodynamic, humanistic, decolonized approaches to healing. I believe that exploring current situations paired with reflecting on past experiences as well as considering ancestral history, can be a recipe to develop awareness which can drive the process of change in people; if they so desire. Allyship, privilege, racism, homophobia, colorism, history of colonization on mental health, and intersectionality are some topics that will be brought up and discussed within the therapeutic process. I speak Spanish and English.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Neurosciences and a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, as well as Certifications in Trauma Treatment and advanced trainings in EMDR Therapy, IFS therapy, Contextual Therapy, among others . Understanding the human experience with trauma, pain and loss and witnessing how through therapy healing is possible, has been the seal of a lifelong legacy. As a psychotherapist I practice a holistic and integrative approach and work mainly from a psychodynamic, trauma informed and neuroscientific and systemic perspective, based on the evidence of how trauma impacts the body and brain, and the awareness that in order to create lasting change and heal trauma wounds we must create insight and integrate past and present while establishing a secure connection with ourselves and in relationship with our significant others. It is now my honor to be your therapist. As your therapist it is my goal to guide you through your journey of internal growth and lasting healing.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New York rather than a city like New York City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in New York. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New York from Buffalo to Rochester! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New York.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
