Hi, I’m a licensed therapist who believes change happens when you feel truly seen and understood. I bring warmth, curiosity, and thoughtful honesty into the room, creating a space where you can slow down and untangle what’s been weighing on you. I work with adults who may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, stuck or navigating major life changes. Together, we make sense of patterns, build self-trust, and take steady, realistic steps toward a life that feels more aligned and fulfilling.

I work with deep feelers, overthinkers, cycle-breakers, and people in transition who are ready to release the old emotional stories they no longer want to live inside. My approach is warm, intuitive, grounded, and collaborative. Together, we explore the patterns, beliefs, protective responses, and inner agreements that may have formed through pain, survival, heartbreak, family dynamics, identity shifts, or repeated relational wounds. I help clients slow down, listen inward, understand what their emotions are trying to protect, and begin relating to themselves with more clarity, compassion, and choice. My work supports emotional release, self-trust, nervous system awareness, healthier boundaries, and the gradual return to one’s own voice, body, truth, and power.

I'm Jackie — a licensed clinical social worker and addiction counselor who genuinely loves this work. I trained at NYU Silver and spent years in community mental health, inpatient, and outpatient settings before opening my private practice. I wanted something less clinical and more human. I work with adults dealing with anxiety, depression, codependency, relationship struggles, and the kind of life transitions that leave you wondering who you even are anymore. A lot of my clients grew up in homes that felt unpredictable or unsafe — homes where they learned early to read the room, manage everyone else's feelings, and keep the peace at their own expense. They've been the capable one for so long that asking for help feels almost foreign. If that sounds familiar, you're in the right place. Therapy with me is collaborative and conversational. Sessions feel more like a real conversation than a formal appointment. I'll help you understand the patterns underneath the surface stuff — why you react the way you do, where it came from, and what to do about it now. We'll draw from CBT, DBT, and IPT, building real skills along the way. Sometimes you'll leave with something to try between sessions; other times, something to sit with and think about. My style is warm, direct, and skills-focused. I'll meet you where you are and gently push when it serves your growth, because real change usually means getting a little uncomfortable in a safe space. Humor shows up too — the hard stuff goes down easier when we can laugh at parts of it. Asking for help isn't weakness. It's one of the braver things you can do.

I’m a therapist with over five years of experience in the mental health field, driven by a deep belief that healing begins when people feel safe within themselves. My work focuses on helping clients develop effective coping skills, build emotional resilience, and improve their overall quality of life in ways that feel realistic and sustainable. My path into this work started early. I’ve been in helping roles since the age of 19, beginning as a Certified Nursing Assistant and later working as a Direct Support Professional. Those experiences shaped my approach to therapy today: grounded, compassionate, and deeply respectful of each person’s lived experience. Therapy with me is collaborative and practical. Together, we identify tools and strategies that actually fit your life, not ones that sound good on paper but fall apart in real-world moments. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, empowered, and capable of thriving, not just surviving. Humor is always welcome here; therapy doesn’t have to feel like homework to be meaningful.

I am a driven and creative individual. I am a psychotherapist and a professional cellist. Having two careers side by side gives me a unique perspective and ability to connect with people in the therapy setting. I am a problem solver and I enjoy doing so in a collaborative manner. I try to foster a space where constant learning and growth is happening. I especially love being a safe person and providing a safe environment for people to practice new skills with. I believe that if I'm going to teach something new to someone that it's best if I am practiced at it as well. I enjoy trying things together and am not afraid to think on my feet and be spontaneous in sessions. To me therapy should be like taking vitamins; a regular part of your health routine. Even therapists go to therapy (at least they should!).

This variety of exposure and experiences has given me some insight into all of the different issues that can bother us, and all the ways we can handle those issues. I've learned about the broad ranges of feelings we feel, and how to cope with those feelings in productive ways. I've also learned about how we can come to rely on unhealthy coping skills, and ways to transition into more positive and safer skills.

"I will look for the flowers by the side of the road; I will laugh and love and be strong. I will try to lighten another’s load this day as I fare along". --MARY S. EDGAR My name is Jen and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Clinical Trauma Professional. I would love to work alongside you as your therapist. I have 20 years of experience providing both mental health and addictions therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. My Master’s degree is in Community Mental Health Counseling, Addictions Counseling, and Marriage and Family Therapy (2009), and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Family Studies (2006). I've worked in in Telehealth, community mental health, schools, shelters, and private practices. Since becoming a counselor, clients, such as yourself, have come to me for a lot of different things, including trauma (particularly in the areas of childhood abuse, domestic violence, religious trauma, and first responder and military trauma), LGBTQ+ issues, personality disorders, family and social relationships, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Currently, I work with women and nonbinary clients with a history of trauma and abuse, sexual trauma, eating disorders, and military veterans and their partners. In particular, a lot of my clients with a history of trauma come to process this in treatment; however, trauma doesn't necessary have to be their main focus of therapy. Personally, I have always enjoyed my job as a therapist. It has been good to see change in my clients regardless if they see their change as little or big. Watching growth in the people I work with truly makes my work worth it. After work, I enjoy being outside, watching sports (especially basketball), being at a beach, reading, binge watching TV series, and spending time with my family.

Rita LaBrew, LMFT, brings a depth of experience spanning foster care, child welfare, private practice, and telehealth. I offer a collaborative therapy space grounded in clinical skill and evidence-informed care. I tailor treatment to each client’s goals, helping individuals build insight, resilience, and lasting change. I work with adults willing to look inward and reflect on their inner lives. My approach integrates psychodynamic therapy and psychoeducation to help clients understand how past experiences, unconscious patterns, and present thoughts shape emotions and behavior. By offering clarity, language, and insight, therapy becomes a space for understanding, steadiness, and meaningful change over time. My style is thoughtful, direct, and collaborative. I use an insight-oriented psychodynamic approach to help you understand the roots beneath the pattern: family-of-origin dynamics, protective roles, and the stories you’ve had to live by. I also use psychoeducation to make therapy practical: clear language for what you’re experiencing, tools for boundaries, and ways to respond differently in real life.

Overwhelmed? Trouble saying "no" to people? Do you sometimes feel like you're making decisions based on other people's opinions/wants/needs/expectations over your own? Are your feelings and needs getting neglected? Or maybe talking about feelings is just really difficult for you, as it is for most people. It's common to avoid communication all together because it just feels like conflict. I am an openly a queer person, running a private practice since 2021, but practicing therapy full-time since 2018. I focus on trauma work, anxiety, shame, identity exploration, and boundaries/setting limits! When I say trauma work, sometimes people always assume the most extreme - but with all clients I find it beneficial to reflect on impactful or very painful past experiences and how it shapes our relationships and present-day life. I can offer you a better understanding and education of your body's nervous system, because the mind and body are connected, and trauma is held within our bodies. My goal is to work with you on improving self-awareness, understanding your automatic reactions, and having direct coping tools based on your specific experiences and mental health symptoms, so you can enjoy the present and feel more free and in control. I’ll help you identify your unmet needs and your emotions, and practice better communication and conflict-resolution often, too. However as educational, direct, and action-oriented I try to be, I also work from a place of compassion. Therapy is very vulnerable! I am ultimately giving you the space and time to get any current worries off your mind, and I try to always work from a place of patience, empathy, and flexibility, too. I've been in the client's chair many times, and I know exactly how important it is to feel free to talk without being judged.

With the right match, psychotherapy is a gift to yourself. I'm trained as a licensed clinical social worker and see people remotely in New York and Michigan. My approach is warm, genuine, and affirming. It's my job to listen and understand how your background, circumstances, relationships, and overlapping social identities have shaped your experience and help you navigate whatever you're facing so you can heal and move forward. I've been a social worker for 20+ years and have worked with, and on behalf of kids and adults of all ages in the areas of mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice, education, LGBTQIA+/TGNBI rights, and services for people without stable housing. After some soul searching and shifting of my "why," I've returned to individual work. I enjoy meeting and working with people from all walks of life. I have a master’s degree with a law minor from Columbia University and a bachelor's in psychology from the University of Michigan.

We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New York from Buffalo to Rochester! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New York.

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in New York that work with patients with similar concerns.

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
