I believe in seeing the client before me as a whole person rather than his or her diagnosis. The therapy room should be safe space to develop a positive relationship with a therapist one has rapport with and I aim to be that therapist for everyone who walks into my office. I utilize multiple tools and theories in sessions; but at the core, I am a person-centered therapist who practices unconditional positive regard for my clients. Whatever issue or life change brings you to therapy, I will work with you to help you create a more positive mental space for yourself, and empower you to make the necessary changes to impact your life in a beneficial manner. Therapy is a tool for everyone to use; life can get challenging, and having someone in your corner to support you through different obstacles can be an advantage.

Evaluations are deeply collaborative and tailored to client goals, which may include diagnostic clarification, support for accommodations (as determined during the consultation call), accessing appropriate prescribers, improving resource accessibility, and making sense of past experiences through a neurodiversity-affirming lens. Each evaluation centers the individual’s voice and story—offering a meaningful, strengths-based understanding of their lived experience. As a provider who is neurodivergent and has significant personal and professional experience in therapy and evaluation for individuals with autism and ADHD, my commitment is to deliver compassionate and thorough care. I’m an LCSW with over 40 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s most challenging transitions. My background includes extensive work in public schools, private practice, trauma-informed care, and decades of supporting people through emotional injuries that began in childhood and echo into their adult relationships. Along with my clinical side, I’m a lifelong published poet whose creative work informs the way I listen and understand people. My creative background shapes the way I listen and understand people—attuned not just to the facts of your story, but to its emotional tone, patterns, and meaning. I bring warmth, directness, and deep respect for personal resilience. Many clients come to me during times of upheaval—breakups, family conflict, identity shifts, grief, anxiety, and major life decisions—and then choose to stay for deeper self-exploration. My role is to help you understand the patterns that shape your life, build emotional clarity, trust your own judgment, and move ahead with greater stability and confidence.

I am a licensed mental health therapist with many years of experience providing therapy to individuals, adolescents, groups, and occasionally couples in various settings. My experience has led me to connect with many individuals at different phases in their lives who wanted to change something but didn't know how. I have worked with various populations from so many backgrounds, and all that stuck out to me was the disfranchised. A person losing their sense of autonomy and self always left me with that question, "Can I do more?" In my journey as a provider, I want to uplift my clients and remind them they have always had a voice and power that is waiting.

At my core, I am a therapist who believes in the transformative power of depth, empathy, humor, and the arts. I’ve spent my career helping people understand themselves more fully — not only by reducing symptoms, but by uncovering the narratives, emotions, and self-limiting beliefs that have kept them small or stuck. I work from a humanistic and psychoanalytic foundation, integrating mindfulness, ACT, and solution-focused strategies to help clients access resilience, self-compassion, and real change. I bring a warm, grounded, and creative presence into the room. My background as an artist and writer shapes my work: I’m attentive to symbolism, story, imagination, and the deeper layers of a person’s emotional life. Humor is also one of my most natural tools, not to avoid pain, but to help clients feel safe, open, and connected as they explore difficult experiences. Across corporate mental health, trauma work, refugee support, and private practice, I’ve seen how people flourish when they’re permitted to be fully themselves. I help clients build self-esteem through honesty, curiosity, and acceptance; loosen rigid patterns; and move beyond the internalized messages or roles that no longer serve them

Hello! I’m Aida Valerio. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who found my calling 11 years ago having discovered that I wanted to provide people with a therapeutic space to heal, grow, and ultimately transform. Are you going through a personal challenge or major life transition? Do you need a safe space to have your experiences affirmed and validated? Do you feel overwhelmed by your emotions and in need of support? Have you considered speaking to someone but are unsure of how to begin? Wherever you are in your journey, I want to congratulate you on exploring possibilities to receive help. Therapy, like anything new or unknown, can feel scary. When Wendy was learning how to fly in Peter Pan, her fear of “what if I fall?” was met with Peter’s response of “oh, darling, what if you fly?” Not only did she fly, but she also transformed. My therapeutic approach is gentle, warm, and trauma-informed to ensure your comfort every step of the way. I listen attentively and non-judgmentally, welcoming your authentic self. You can express yourself in English and/or Spanish as I am fluent in both languages.

Search therapists by insurance

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by New York rather than a city like New York City?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across New York from Buffalo to Rochester! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in New York.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on LGBTQ?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in New York that work with patients with similar concerns.

What are the "Clients say I’m" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
