New to Grow
Allinllachu (Hello in Quechua)! My name is Joicy and I am a Queer Quechua Peruvian immigrant. Community takes the center stage in my life’s work. Whether that is inviting clients to think of their community and cultivate intentional interpersonal relationships or thinking of our collective joy and grief, I am guided and guide people to explore the self in relation to community. It is within our circles that through conversation and exploration we are all able to become aware of patterns created through our life experiences, develop healthy ways to navigate interactions, and have the opportunity to live a stable and healthy life. There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I utilize a combination of practices with a focus on liberation psychology, psychodynamic, humanistic, decolonized approaches to healing. I believe that exploring current situations paired with reflecting on past experiences as well as considering ancestral history, can be a recipe to develop awareness which can drive the process of change in people; if they so desire. Allyship, privilege, racism, homophobia, colorism, history of colonization on mental health, and intersectionality are some topics that will be brought up and discussed within the therapeutic process. I speak Spanish and English.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
I bring a combination of providing emotional space-holding while challenging you.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I do not believe in being a blank slate in therapy. You and I will be co-building our therapeutic relationship, and you will see my personality come through.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I serve clients who are going through life transitions and are intentional about wanting to better their relationship with themselves as well as with their circles.
Psychodynamic
I utilize psychodynamic approaches as a basis to guide clients to awareness and insight.
Mind-body approach
I guide clients to begin or continue to listen to their bodies by utilizing a bottom-up approach where breathwork, guided meditation, guided imagery might be used (depending on what is needed in those moments).
Culturally Sensitive Therapy
Cultural attunement is imperative in the work I do. Working with any client requires an exploration and understanding of their intersected identities; which include their culture.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I also incorporate other different approaches (CBT, DBT, Humanistic etc.) depending on client needs.
