New to Grow
I am a psychotherapist in full time private practice in Manhattan. I have been working in the field of psychoanalysis for more than 20 years. I have done post graduate work at The Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies and The Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. I have run group supervisions over the last 10 years. I specialize in mood disorders and disordered eating patterns.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
I bring kindness, curiosity, an objective and empathetic perspective, and professional integrity to my work. I focus on transformative therapy that addresses the underlying causes of symptoms. Psychotherapy is helpful for issues like self-esteem, depression and anxiety, which often stem from unconscious conflicts, early relational disruptions, and past psychic pain. Rather than just manage symptoms alone, we work to understand why they persist. If you’re shy or unsure how to talk, that’s okay, there’s no pressure to say things perfectly. We begin with 1–3 sessions to see if we’re a good fit, then set goals and track them along with symptom reduction and growth. Over time, clients develop more confidence, clarity, and a more stable inner life.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have years of experience and view what clients say with an open mind and unbiased perspective. I approach my practice with authenticity and straightforwardness. The direct stance I take enables me to address concerns that impact your life as soon as they come up in our work together. I help you to understand your patterns, behaviors, thoughts and actions, but furthermore, what they mean to you, and how you can change the things which no longer serve you. I assist you in identifying and transforming negative and unhelpful thoughts and feelings, into thoughts and feelings that are more grounded and beneficial.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
The people I work with are often experiencing some type of psychic pain and want to alleviate it. They may come in because of difficulties with partners, family, friends, work issues, disordered eating, or self esteem concerns. Or possibly, they are having intrapsychic conflicts like anxiety and depression. I help people relieve these symptoms while using therapy to bring joy and satisfaction in their relationships, work, and self-regard, simultaneously helping clients grow to their most fully realized selves. I often work with new parents, women dealing with women's health concerns, the LGBTQ+ population, older adults, and men dealing with men's health concerns.
Psychodynamic
We work to bring your submerged thoughts and feelings into conscious awareness. Your relationship with me mirrors your outside life, which enables us to study your thoughts and feelings about the people and experiences in your life that impact you and matter to you the most. Seeing these patterns in your perceptions about your life experiences and interactions with others, helps you to recognize and change outdated relationship habits. You learn to spot defense mechanisms (like denial or avoidance) that your mind uses to protect you from pain, but which may now be holding you back. The goal is deep seated structural change rather than just temporary relief. The benefits of these insights can often continue to grow, even after the therapy has ended.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I also use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients identify challenging, unhelpful, or distorted thought patterns, and then reframe these perspectives to be more realistic and balanced.
