I provide clinical therapy for individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, and the various stressors that can impact daily functioning. The pace of therapy will be guided by your comfort and readiness. My goal is to provide a structured, supportive, and effective space where you can grow, heal, and build the skills to improve your overall well-being.

I am open-minded and quirky and like to work with people who have struggled to "fit in".
My journey to mental healthcare
Started a long time ago, as a child and possibly in utero. From a family of caregivers. I have always been a healer and worked at age 16 as a peer mentor and worked my way through my associate's degree in social work, to then taking a break to start a family. I now have my master's and am ready to help others reach their goals on their journey.
My name is Teresa Barnes. I’m Licensed in the State of Michigan with over 3O years of experience. I have extensive experience working with children that have behavior problems and trauma. Acceptance Therapy has been very effective and the foundation of what I believe as a social worker which is to start therapy at the clients pace and to effectively engage them in therapeutic process. It’s is my aspiration and goal to help my clients thrive and achieve success according to their definition of success.
I have been in practice in Kalamazoo for over 15 years, working with children, teens, and adults navigating challenges such as trauma, stress, and family or parenting concerns. I am trained in trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused CBT, and play therapy.
In addition to my clinical work, I am also a school social worker and a father of eight, which gives me a deep understanding of the challenges families and children face every day. I take a person-centered approach, which means I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard and respected. Together, we will identify your goals and move at a pace that feels right for you.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective mental health support to individuals seeking guidance and healing. With a deep commitment to promoting wellness and empowerment, I have a wealth of experience and expertise in counseling.

I am a feminist, a gender affirming, LGBTQIA+ advocate and supporter, and I know that one person can make a difference. If you need that person, come walk with me. If you are that person, let's work together to support the one who needs you.
I work with parents navigating high conflict co-parenting, complex grief, traumatic loss, and life after emotional abuse. I believe that people know themselves best - you are the expert on yourself. I will suggest ideas and I hope that you'll try them and then give me feedback about what worked and what didn't. Therapy is a journey that we walk together. If that sounds like a good fit for you, let's meet.
Hi, I am Gabi. Thank you for visiting my profile!
Maybe your mind will not slow down. Maybe you have felt low for a while, you are going through a rough patch, or past experiences still leave you feeling on edge. You might be managing work, school, and daily responsibilities while feeling exhausted inside. You do not have to sort through it alone.
I treat adults with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Substance Abuse, PTSD, OCD, Autism, and Schizoaffective Disorders. Whether you are ready to learn evidence-based skills to change unhelpful thought patterns, manage emotions, and respond differently to challenges, or you need a supportive place to talk without feeling judged, there is room for both.
My style is warm, flexible, down-to-earth, and clinically focused, with an emphasis on meaningful results. From the start, I will take time to understand your experiences, assess your symptoms, clarify your diagnosis, and develop a plan with you. Together, we will set meaningful goals, reduce stress in your mind and body, build confidence, and improve your daily life. We will review your progress and adjust our approach as your needs change.

You are more than a partner in this process, you are the leader for managing your wellness with me offering feedback and guidance as necessary.

It's important for therapists to be, first and foremost, real human beings in relation to clients. I know how to be a therapist. You know how to be you. I try to bring understanding and, when appropriate, humor into my work with people. Therapy is where you can try on different parts of yourself in a non-judgemental environment. What happens in session can reflect what you experience in your everday life. This provides you with perspective to live a more fufilling life. I work remotely, but find that this is not a barrier to real connection.
I utilize a key component of self-care and self-love to help clients develop a stronger, more confident self-image. Clients can expect to feel safe & heard, while gaining clarity with interactive homework assignments. I work with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, or trauma related to relationships or life issues. Most of my clients see a gradual decrease of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter.

To do this, i use a combination of Person-Centered therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused therapy to help clients try to build momentum towards reaching their goals and managing their everyday life and relationships in a more effective way.
My greatest strength as a therapist is to be able to provide Professional Counseling using everyday/real world language and interactions and allowing clients to have an experience talking to "down to earth professional" . I strive to make a client feel heard and validated as a person while helping them take steps in reaching their identified goals.
I also try to emphasize flexibility by offering no cancellations fees and 6-7 days of availability on normal weeks is important as I realize it can be hard for some clients to commit to a specifically weekly commitment.
I am a therapist passionate about listening to the stories of others. I provide a safe space to tackle difficult issues and heal from the affects of trauma. In the past I found myself in therapy, and when my therapist helped me improve the quality of my life I decided I wanted to sit in his chair one day. I've devoted my career to that pursuit.
You may be seeking therapy due to crippling anxiety, exhausting depression or to lift the weight trauma has placed on you. You may want to learn strategies to improve your focus and move you closer to your goals. Perhaps you want to get closer to loved ones and communicate in a healthier way with those around you. Whatever you bring I am here to guide you through it so you can then guide yourself through life. I'm confident that if we work together you can make changes, feel better and get more out of life.

I believe that the stories we tell ourselves about who we are hold incredible power—and that sometimes, the most courageous thing we can do is rewrite those stories with a pen dipped in kindness. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), my work is deeply rooted in mindfulness and self-compassion frameworks. I don't view therapy as a process of 'fixing' what is broken, but rather as an invitation to meet yourself right where you are. Together, we will work to quiet the inner critic and cultivate a genuine, lasting friendship with yourself.
Every story deserves a witness and every voice deserves to feel heard. As a clinician I take a humanistic approach when meeting with clients. For me, Humanistic means engaging with clients and taking a non-judgmental approach while they share about the barriers they're facing in life. My goal is to create a safe space as clients work towards self-acceptance and work through difficult emotions.
I have worked in the mental health field for 5+ years with a focus on helping those with developmental disabilities, and severe mental illness. Every client experience is unique and deserves to be treated as such. Working together using a humanistic approach we will work together to find what works best for you to reach your identified wants and goals. This is your story, I'm just here to be your non-judgment listener while you figure out the ending.
