I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. I moved to Florida from Nashville but have roots in Mississippi and Virginia. I graduated from the University of Phoenix in April of 2014 with a Bachelors of Science in Health Administration. I used that degree to enroll at Capella University where I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in March of 2021. My passion for counseling started when I was very young. In my teenage years I participated in groups that worked to prevent teen suicide. This interest eventually worked its way into my adult life as a career in the mental health field. My first position after graduating with my Masters was assisting individuals whose substance abuse lead to involvement in the criminal justice system. Building on that, I also have experience with Veterans' issues, grief and loss, eating disorders, LGBTQ+, relationships, depression, anxiety, social fears and many other mental health diagnoses. I don’t believe that there is a one size fits all approach to an individual’s mental health. I use a wide range of techniques to best help my clients to achieve the goals they set forth during their time in treatment by developing strategies and coping skills to achieve optimal mental health.

Greetings, I'm Sonya There are times when we all experience a loss of our sense of self. You may feel like you’re on a journey but aren’t quite sure which turn to take next. Maybe you’re feeling anxious, confused, sad, angry—or simply “blah.” You may have great friends, watch self-help TikToks, and try to figure things out on your own, yet still find yourself not feeling okay or unsure of where to turn. I bring a calm, accepting, and relatable presence to therapy, which allows me to build meaningful connections with my clients. I provide a judgment-free environment centered on calmness, peace, and support, where you can feel comfortable being yourself, expressing your thoughts and emotions, and knowing that you are heard. Together, we will explore and process the experiences, thoughts, and situations that may be impacting your emotional well-being and daily life. My goal is to empower you to develop practical strategies, strengthen your coping skills, and gain greater confidence in navigating life’s challenges. You don’t have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. Sometimes, you simply need a safe place to start. I look forward to walking alongside you as you work toward greater clarity, balance, and a more peaceful resolution.

I believe therapy is most effective when it feels both supportive and collaborative. My goal is to provide a safe space where clients can process trauma, explore challenges, and build the skills they need to live more fully. I offer psychotherapy, therapeutic assessments, and specialized interventions designed to meet each client’s unique needs. Whether you are navigating life transitions, managing mental health concerns, or seeking greater clarity in your relationships, I aim to help you feel understood and empowered. As I often remind clients, our connection to the world is shaped by the people we engage with. Together, we can build on your existing strengths and experiences to create meaningful change and improve your quality of life. As an athlete, a family man, and a man of faith, I understand the challenges with adjusting to change associated with leaving a sport or career, you love, before you believe your time is up. I understand what it feels like to develop a bond and the challenges with sustaining such bonds. I also understand seeking growth spiritually when there’s so much temptation and triggers that seem to pull me away for my goals. With that, these experiences are what hopefully keep me humble, motivated, and grateful.

Are you experiencing frustration, confusion or turmoil in your life? Even to the point where you see no sense of direction while trying to navigate through life? At times, this can be overwhelming for individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD, including other mental health disorders. Hi! My name is Stephaney and I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida with almost a decade of experience in treating adults and adolescents for various mental health challenges and co-occurring diagnoses. I was inspired to become a therapist by my unique experience migrating to the United States at the age of 13 and attending middle school which was very challenging for me. Culture shock became my reality and one that would eventually lead me to “Severe anxiety.” Even with a very strong family support system, I felt alone and trapped by my own inner fears and self-defeating thoughts. Constant worry and fear of being bullied by my peers became my everyday experience. Through all these obstacles, I was able to process my feelings and experiences with my faith in Jesus Christ, supportive family, and a few good friends. To this extent, I have come to recognize the benefits of a strong support system and the need for social and relational connection. As a mental health counselor, I’m privileged to be a part of that support system for many people. I work with my clients to connect the dots between their thoughts, emotions, and actions, all while providing sound strategies to promote healthier thought processes. I believe that every human being deserves a chance to be heard and understood, and therapy has taught me that as human beings, we are more alike than different. So as your therapist, I’m excited to be a listening ear for you and help guide you toward your goals.

With over 18 years of experience, I provide compassionate, bilingual therapy in both English and Spanish to individuals and families navigating life’s challenges. I understand that deciding to start therapy can feel overwhelming—especially with the stigma that sometimes surrounds mental health—but choosing to seek support is a courageous and important step toward healing and growth. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship struggles, or adjusting to a new environment, culture, or life stage, you’ve come to the right place. My approach is warm, practical, and personalized, focused on creating a safe and supportive space where you can explore your emotions and develop effective coping skills. I’ve had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients—children, adults, and couples—and my goal is always to help you build resilience, manage stress, and improve your emotional well-being. Together, we’ll identify the challenges that impact your daily life and develop practical, evidence-based strategies tailored to your unique needs. As a Qualified Clinical Supervisor, I also support and guide other therapists in their professional development, ensuring high standards of care in the mental health community. Taking the first step toward therapy is an investment in your well-being, and choosing the right therapist is an important part of that process. With more than 30 years of clinical experience, I provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel heard, understood, and comfortable exploring life's challenges. I believe that healing begins with a trusting therapeutic relationship. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized, recognizing that every person brings a unique story, set of experiences, and goals. Together, we'll identify obstacles that may be keeping you stuck, build on your existing strengths, and develop practical strategies to help you move forward with greater confidence and resilience. Throughout my career, I have served as a Clinical Supervisor and spent 18 years as a Senior Dialysis Case Manager, helping individuals and families navigate complex medical, emotional, and life transitions. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the connection between physical and emotional well-being while strengthening my ability to provide thoughtful guidance during times of uncertainty. I utilize a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), trauma-focused therapy, grief counseling, and other integrative modalities. Every treatment plan is personalized to reflect your individual needs, values, and goals. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, medical challenges, stress, low self-esteem, or a major life transition, I am committed to helping you gain insight, develop healthy coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My goal is to empower you with the tools and support needed to build a healthier, more balanced, and fulfilling life.

My journey as a therapist began with a deep fascination for the human mind and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in people's lives after growing up in the foster care system. I previously served in the Air Force, serving my country. I have a bachelor's in dietetics and nutrition with years of nutrition counseling as well. Over the years, I have honed my skills, gaining experience in various therapeutic techniques and approaches to better serve my clients.

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs. Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use.
