LMHC, 10 years of experience
Hello, my name is Justine Nyman. I want to thank you for taking the time to seek support. It is not easy to reach out or even realize that counseling/support is needed. So, I welcome you to therapy. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida. I have 10 years' experience and continue to grow in my therapeutic approaches and my knowledge as a therapist. I create a very warm and non-judgmental environment where the client feels comfortable and open to emotional vulnerability. In order to express ourselves and be open with our struggles we need to feel comfortable in the therapeutic process. I use acceptance with my clients and don't judge them based on their history or their current choices. I want the client to feel comfortable, so they can start their journey, set goals, use coping skills, and improve their overall well-being. Counseling is a process and takes time. Some individuals require more time than others and that is okay. I believe in moving with the pace of the client, through setting goals and practicing tools is essential for change. In order to feel change, we need to make changes in our everyday lives. If we don't initiate changes, it becomes a struggle to move forward. "Practice makes permanent" I look forward to working with you on your journey of growth, mastery, and success.
Information to help you prepare for our first session. Our sessions are 50 minutes long and for the first initial session, I like to take the opportunity to get to know you better in terms of what brings you in for therapy, some background regarding what has been occurring in terms of your emotional health history, current support system, and some additional questions may apply. This is helpful as it helps to create a better rapport as well as helps me to work with you in developing the best strategies to provide you in your mental health journey. I create a very warm environment that is supportive and non-judge mental. I want you to feel safe, where you feel that you can be open in a healthy environment. Let's work on getting you feeling better ☺️

My approaches vary per the clients' specific needs. I am familiar and utilize the cognitive behavioral approach, dialectical behavioral therapeutic approach, mindfulness therapies, positive psychology, and do incorporate some solution focused therapy depending on the client's needs. My specialties' include: depression, anxiety/stress management, bipolar disorder, substance use recovery, self-esteem/confidence, and many other areas of expertise. I want you to be motivated to work alongside therapy. What that means is that our sessions are tailored to your needs, but it is a two-way process. You provide insight and feedback, and I provide insight and feedback. When we work together the results are endless.
I have been utilizing CBT within my practice for over 10 years. With the focus on integrating mindfulness practices, cognitive restructuring, challenging our core beliefs, assertiveness practices, and understanding the connection between our thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviors we are able to promote improved emotion regulation.
Sometimes the method of changing our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors may not be as effective as we prefer. I have been integrating DBT into my practice for over 10 years, focusing on developing improved regulation skills through emotion regulation, mindfulness based practices, strengthening our interpersonal relationships, and building distress tolerance skills to better manage intense emotions and the stress and pressures we face. With DBT, we are focused on changing our emotional and behavioral patterns, by integrating the theory of dialectics.
Integrating the concept of acceptance alongside our base and core values aides in providing us an opportunity to strengthen our emotion regulation and behavioral skills. We focus on accepting our negative thoughts as they are, but with a focus on aligning our behaviors with the values that represent us. We choose to live life alongside our values through making that commitment to ourselves.
Providing education of tools and skills alongside the various treatment methods allows for a better understanding of what we are experiencing and why the tools we implement are important for our emotional stability.
Focusing on resolving our ambivalence to making changes and promoting guidance to creating behavioral shifts. Strengthening intrinsic motivation and utilizing the stages of change to create both emotional and behavioral changes.
