Ready to break free from the weight of trauma, anxiety, or overwhelming grief? If self-doubt, social anxiety, or past pain have kept you stuck, EMDR therapy offers a proven path to lasting healing and growth. Together, we’ll work to release emotional barriers so you can reclaim your peace, purpose, and power.
In a safe, compassionate space, I provide personalized care tailored to your unique journey. Using EMDR, we’ll address unresolved trauma, ease anxiety, and bring lasting relief from emotional pain. My mission is to support your growth, clarity, and confidence so you can step into a life of freedom and fulfillment. Your healing journey starts here — let’s take the first step together.
Are you feeling lost, stuck, or weighed down by past trauma? Or are you and your partner caught in repetitive cycles, struggling to truly connect? I specialize in helping individuals and couples move from feeling disconnected to living with deep purpose, clarity, and security.
For young adults and individuals feeling lost in life, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) combined with existential and somatic-cognitive tools. Together, we will help you rediscover who you are, clarify your core values, and define exactly what you want your life to look like. We will process past pain, release physical trauma, and foster genuine post-traumatic growth so you can build a meaningful future.
For couples, I combine the Gottman Method and the Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT). We will work in real-time to understand your nervous system responses, break negative communication loops, and build a secure, deeply connected partnership.
Whether you are navigating individual healing, identity exploration, or relationship growth, I provide a safe, actionable space to help you thrive.

Hello, I’m Dennis Alvarez, PsyD.
I believe counseling should both encourage and thoughtfully challenge individuals to move toward their fullest potential by addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of their lives. I hold a Doctorate in Psychology and a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I am a licensed psychotherapist with experience across hospital, treatment, and private-practice settings.
Throughout my career, I have provided individual and group therapy as well as comprehensive psychological assessments to adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relational distress, substance-use concerns, and life-transition stressors. My clinical background includes work in hospitals, substance-use treatment programs, and outpatient private practice, where I integrate evidence-based approaches within a holistic, person-centered framework.
I am also the author of When Heaven Was Silent: Integrating Psychology and Theology in the Garden of Gethsemane, which explores the experience of mental suffering through both clinical and historical perspectives. My doctoral dissertation focused on trauma and psychological adaptation, further shaping my approach to helping individuals understand their internal patterns, build resilience, and restore a sense of meaning and purpose.
In my work with clients, I emphasize helping people understand how and why certain thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns develop, particularly in the context of anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance-use histories. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment while also encouraging insight, personal responsibility, and growth. My goal is to help you move toward a more grounded, authentic, and meaningful life.

Sometimes life blows up in a way you never saw coming. A relationship ends. Someone lies to you. Trust gets shattered. You lose someone you love. Anxiety starts taking over your brain. Or you wake up one day and realize the life you thought you were building is not the life you actually have.
A lot of the people I work with are functioning just fine on the outside while internally thinking, What the hell just happened to my life? They're replaying conversations, second-guessing themselves, trying to make sense of someone else's behavior, wondering whether they missed something, and feeling completely exhausted by their own thoughts.
You don't need to show up with a diagnosis or a beautifully organized explanation of what's wrong. You can bring the messy version.
I'm not a therapist who is going to sit silently for 50 minutes, nod occasionally, and then ask how that made you feel. I am engaged. I ask questions. I notice patterns. I will tell you what I'm seeing. I will validate what deserves validation, and I will also challenge you when I think you are getting stuck, avoiding something important, or being much harder on yourself than the situation actually calls for.
There is room here for grief, anger, confusion, ugly truths, dark humor, bad decisions, overthinking, faith, and the occasional sentence that starts with, "I know this sounds crazy, but..."
I work especially well with adults dealing with anxiety, grief, heartbreak, betrayal, complicated relationships, and major life changes.
What happened matters. But I do not want the worst thing that happened to you to become the organizing principle for the rest of your life.

I hold a master’s in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Florida and have been working in the mental health and substance abuse field since 2009 (licensed since 2012).
My approach is grounded in empathy, active listening, and real partnership. I work as hard as you do to help you return to your best self. I believe lasting change happens between sessions—so I give you practical tools and support, but the real healing comes from what you do with them.
I’ve worked in private practice, addiction clinics, homeless veteran services, military family counseling, and the county jail. Outside of work, I enjoy walking, biking, swimming, travel, cooking, gardening, and time with loved ones.

I have helped many people work through coping with life changes, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma and other multiple issues... I thrive in connecting with the person and developing trust, hope and faith in the therapeutic -and creative- process. Life doesn't always go as planned, and transitions, illness, and trauma are rarely anticipated. Are you struggling with self-defeating patterns that are causing depression, anxiety, and /or a feeling of being stuck? Do you want to make changes in your personal and professional life? Do you have challenges in your relationship? Individuals have unique and individual needs, which should be recognized. Most of the time, you will be able to handle the situation with the help of your friends and family or on your own.
There are times when you might need professional guidance and support to learn specific techniques to help you manage your thoughts and feelings. An important aspect of therapy is the opportunity to explore feelings of loneliness, anxiety, depression, grief, and shame, and to begin the process of creating positive and lasting changes. This takes place in a non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship based on empathy, trust, safety, and compassion. My style is calm, warm, and relaxed, and I believe in creating a safe environment for you in which compassion, support, and humor can flourish.
Together, we can gain insight and understanding of the relationships between emotions, core beliefs and behaviors in order to find solutions to the problems you are facing.
