New to Grow
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience, I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate life's challenges with compassion, insight, and practical support. At Sunrise Counseling and Wellness, LLC, I provide a warm, collaborative space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change. Whether you're struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or a major life transition, I tailor therapy to your unique needs using evidence-based approaches, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR-informed techniques as I continue advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
The initial session provides an opportunity for us to get to know one another. During this time, I will review your personal history, current stressors, why you are seeking therapy at this time, and existing coping skills and natural, supports that you are currently using to help yourself. You will also have a chance to share your expectations/goals for treatment and to discuss any prior experiences you may have had, both positive and negative. If you have been in therapy before, we will also discuss what has worked for you in the past, as well as any barriers preventing you from living the life you deserve. My goal is to listen to your story and collaborate with you on a path toward wellness, with an approach that is catered to your specific, individual needs.
My experience spans inpatient hospitals, private practice, community mental health, and government settings, allowing me to support clients of all ages with a broad range of life experiences. I began my career working with victims of domestic violence and have extensive experience treating anxiety, PTSD, mood disorders, as well as the lasting effects of trauma. I have also worked with active-duty military members and their families in an intensive outpatient setting, older adults, as well as teens and younger adults as they navigate life's transitions, helping them to build resilience while exploring their identity and sense of self. I believe healing begins with a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, respected, and supported. My goal is to help you develop practical coping skills, gain insight into patterns that may be holding you back, helping you to move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize how unhealthy thought patterns can influence their emotions and behaviors. Together, we will identify negative thoughts that may be keeping you stuck, developing healthier, more balanced ways of thinking. Through this process, you will build practical coping skills to better manage depression, anxiety, and life's everyday challenges, empowering you to respond with greater confidence and resilience.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to help clients better manage intense emotions, reduce stress, and improve their relationships with others. DBT focuses on developing practical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication. Together, we will build healthy coping strategies that help you respond thoughtfully rather than impulsively, allowing you to navigate life's challenges with greater balance, resilience, and confidence.
EMDR
I am currently completing advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and other distressing life events. As I complete my training, I look forward to incorporating EMDR into my practice as another effective treatment option for clients experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other challenges. My commitment to ongoing professional development reflects my dedication to providing compassionate, evidence-based care that supports lasting healing and emotional well-being
Attachment-based
I believe that our earliest relationships and life experiences shape how we view ourselves, relate to others, and respond to life's challenges. Using an attachment-based approach, we will explore how past experiences may influence your current thoughts, emotions, relationships, and patterns of behavior. Together, we will identify patterns that may no longer serve you, strengthen your sense of self, and develop healthier ways of connecting with others. My goal is to help you build more secure relationships, increase emotional resilience, and create lasting change that supports your present and future well-being.
