Hi! I'm Femina Patel, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I believe that the best way to empower individuals is through counseling. I specialize in providing counseling services to individuals and families. My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I have much experience in helping individuals improve their mental health. I have worked within many community mental health agency settings and am familiar with clients that have a range of diagnoses from anxiety/depression to SPMI(Serious and persistent mental illness). I believe in creating a safe and supportive environment for my clients to share their thoughts and feelings so they can discover their strengths and learn the skills necessary to overcome their challenges. With my help, you can achieve the mental and emotional well-being you need to reach your goals and lead a happy and fulfilling life. ***If you are seeking services for a minor a consultation with me is required to move forward with an intake appointment.***

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Generally in session, you can expect to experience mindfulness, increased self-awareness, and practical solution-focused discussion, with a touch of humor(when appropriate). We’ll focus on understanding your goals, challenges, and what brought you to therapy. I’ll listen closely, ask questions to clarify patterns and priorities, and collaborate with you to outline a plan for moving forward. This session is your opportunity to be honest, explore your concerns, and see if my style feels like a good fit for your needs. I can help you to find meaning even during the most challenging times. You will find the conversation is comfortable and easy. I aim to be a pillar of support on your journey.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Clients often tell me that one of the first things they notice in working with me is the sense of safety and acceptance I bring to sessions. I focus on creating a space where people feel truly heard and understood, without fear of judgment. Many clients come to therapy carrying patterns of avoidance, self-doubt, or relational tension, and I help them feel comfortable exploring these difficult emotions and experiences. My approach balances empathy with practicality, validating experiences while guiding clients toward actionable strategies for growth. I specialize in helping clients navigate relationship dynamics, whether with partners, family members, or colleagues. I help clients recognize patterns, reflect on their responses, and explore new ways of interacting that strengthen connection and understanding. At the same time, I help clients develop tools for emotional regulation, communication, and self-expression. By combining insight with practical strategies, clients often notice changes in both how they feel and how they relate to others. My methods are tailored to each client’s goals and personality. Some clients benefit from structured exercises, tracking patterns, or goal-setting frameworks, while others respond best to open-ended reflection and dialogue. I meet clients where they are and emphasize measurable progress in ways that feel meaningful and motivating. This personalized approach helps clients feel supported, empowered, and understood throughout the therapeutic process. From the first session, clients can expect a collaborative experience. Together we identify challenges, set goals, and explore strategies to create real change. Over time, clients often notice improvements not only in relationships and emotional regulation, but also in confidence, clarity, and a sense of agency in life. My goal is to help clients move from feeling stuck or reactive to feeling empowered, capable, and more connected to themselves and others.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who want to break through patterns that keep them feeling stuck, disconnected, or reactive in their relationships or personal life. This includes individuals who struggle with communication challenges, emotional regulation, avoidance, self-doubt, or recurring conflict with partners, family, or colleagues. I also work with clients who feel overwhelmed, uncertain about life direction, or frustrated by patterns that hold them back from reaching their goals. My ideal clients are motivated to explore both their internal experiences and their behaviors. They are willing to reflect on past patterns, examine how they respond to challenging situations, and experiment with new ways of thinking and relating. They may come to therapy wanting to improve communication, manage anger or anxiety/depression, increase confidence, or develop healthier relationships with themselves and others. Clients who thrive with my approach are often seeking a combination of understanding and actionable strategies. They value a therapist who can listen deeply, help them uncover underlying issues, and provide practical tools to create meaningful, lasting change. These clients are ready to move from avoidance or reactive patterns toward greater awareness, connection, and self-efficacy in their daily lives.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Through this process, clients learn to recognize unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical tools for managing stress, anxiety, and mood challenges. My approach to CBT is collaborative and tailored to each person’s unique experiences and goals. I aim to create a supportive space where clients feel empowered to challenge limiting beliefs, make meaningful changes, and build lasting emotional resilience.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I integrate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients cultivate greater psychological flexibility and live in alignment with their values. ACT focuses on learning to accept difficult emotions and thoughts rather than struggling against them, while taking meaningful action toward a more fulfilling life. In our work together, I guide clients in developing mindfulness skills, strengthening self-compassion, and identifying what truly matters to them. This approach supports clients in moving through life’s challenges with openness, resilience, and a deeper sense of purpose.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I approach therapy through a culturally sensitive and inclusive lens, recognizing that each client’s background, identity, and lived experiences shape how they view themselves and the world. I strive to create a space where clients feel seen, respected, and understood in all aspects of who they are. This means honoring cultural values, family systems, and intersectional identities while exploring how these factors influence emotions, relationships, and coping styles. My goal is to collaborate with clients in a way that affirms their experiences and supports healing that feels authentic and empowering.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop balance between acceptance and change. DBT focuses on building skills in four key areas—mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness—to support clients in managing intense emotions and improving relationships. In therapy, I emphasize practical tools and real-world application, helping clients strengthen self-awareness and navigate challenges with greater calm and clarity. My goal is to help clients create a life that feels more stable, meaningful, and aligned with their values.

Interpersonal

I draw from Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to help clients explore how their relationships and communication patterns impact their emotional well-being. This approach focuses on improving relationship dynamics, strengthening social support, and addressing life transitions or unresolved grief that may contribute to distress. Together, we work to enhance self-awareness, develop healthier ways of relating to others, and build confidence in expressing needs and boundaries. My goal is to help clients experience more fulfilling and balanced connections in their personal and professional lives.

I've been going to Femina for therapy for about 2 months now for both general and social anxiety. I always feel like I can speak without judgement during our sessions and since going to her, have been able to step outside of my comfort zone more to connect with others, as well as gaining the confidence in being able to trust my decisions. I always feel like she wants to get an understanding of my perspective so that she can give solutions to working through my problems.
