There is nothing wrong with you! This is the first and possibly the most surprising thing you will learn from me. You will also learn that it is true, and that will be the most freeing thing you will ever learn from anyone. In our very first session, expect to be HEARD and SEEN. Clients often come in with diagnoses already tacked onto them. Depression, anxiety, and/or severe adjustment disorders are often part of the stories they tell me about themselves. I have tremendous compassion for you. I am not interested in the negative labels or self-defeating stories that you have been carrying around like heavy burdens. I am interested in going right through them and discovering who YOU are.

There are always solutions for problems that we encounter, even the problems that we have been stuck with for quite some time. Though, there is no quick fix or one-size approach either. Therapy is a collaborative healing process to improve functioning in several areas of our life. I take a collaborative approach and have experience working with children, teens, and adults to address a variety of disorders. These include stress, trauma, grief, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, neurological disorders, parenting styles, and other mental health issues impairing functioning in daily routine. I am continuously learning through training, collaboration, and current readings to ensure quality care.

Choosing a therapist can be challenging and confusing and one might ask, what does therapy involve? From my experience Therapy involves developing a very special relationship between a professionally licensed practitioner called a therapist and one or more people seeking to collaboratively define and achieve constructive change. This relationship is referred to as the therapeutic bond and is considered one of the most important parts of successful therapy. As such our first step in therapy is, from day one, to form that bond by establishing a trusting, non-shaming environment where any child, adolescent, person, couple, or family will feel safe and sense the therapist is on their side, listens and understands. Therapy on my behalf will involve empathy, genuineness, and mindful acceptance while we collaboratively establish therapeutic changes / goals you feel are both desired and are ready to achieve. Our sessions will involve the language of change as perceived by you the client(s), and constructive finding of solutions. You will be able to present your story without fear of rejection or shame. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, and am very effective with middle schoolers, adolescents young adults, and people working in the stressful world of business, hi tech and active military service members, and veterans. During my time as a therapist I have built a reputation as caring, effective and someone who has my client’s best interests at heart. If you feel a connection or that contacting me could be of value, I would be very happy to hear from you. Until such time I wish you the very best in your quest. Sincerely, Mike Michael Durrigan Ca. Hello and Welcome! I am a social worker who has been in the field for over 20 years. Early in my career, I was fortunate enough to work with a psychiatrist who believed there was more to treating mental health than medication. I participated in a training with him and I was transformed as a therapist. I was trained in the relaxation response and mindfulness meditation and using the body to help heal people who have had significant trauma and mental health challenges. From there, I went on to get my yoga teaching certification from Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Since then, I have been helping children, adolescents and adults learn more about themselves and help them connect with the truest part of themselves. I believe part of my purpose is to help people learn to love themselves. I lived in CA for a long time and still hold my LCSW license. I was fortunate enough to study with a number of teachers at Spirit Rock Meditation Center who have influenced my work. I blend a number of different frameworks into my practice including trauma-informed CBT, DBT, somatic psychotherapy and self-compassion. I am mindful and respectful of all differences (racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, economic, gender, sexual orientation, ability etc.) and strive to understand each person within the context of their life history. Every person who seeks treatment has unique needs and goals. I strive to work collaboratively with you to keep your goals at the center of our work together. I stand in solidarity with the BIPOC community and all those impacted by systemic racism and oppression. I will uphold my own values and ethics and support all those who are speaking out against injustice of any kind. As a therapist, I am committed to creating a safe space for all.

I have been a therapist for over 10 years and have worked with many populations, including the forensic population, both incarcerated individuals, those on felony probation as well as first responders and their families which includes spouses, adolescents, and the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and enjoy working with individuals. I not only have a Masters in Clinical Counseling but also a Masters in Forensic psychology. I am also currently working on my dissertation for a Ph.D. I enjoy helping my clients process and grow and teaching them how to come to their own solutions for past and present life stressors. I enjoy adding levity to sessions when appropriate and understand the benefits of laughter. I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate, working on my dissertation to achieve a doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology. I feel that learning is a part of every stage of life and that knowledge is the power we need to drive self-improvement; and whatever that means to each individual. When I am not "therapizing" I love to cuddle the menagerie of pets we have acquired, read, play video games, and REST!!! Resting is productive, too.

Good to meet you! Please, call me Annita. To begin with--therapy means something is "right" with you, as you listened to your heart asking to be heard by someone in a safe, non-judgmental place of acceptance. Now let me ask: anxiety or depression, histories or memories of childhood or adult traumatic events, grief and loss of a beloved family member, friend, or pet to whom you were closely connected, navigating chronic illness--have any of these challenges disrupted your life so it feels intolerable? Let me hear your heart--not with a stethoscope, but with listening to you. My 30+ years of previous career in nursing taught me that 'listening' to words from the heart is one of the most important aspects of a relationship--not just hearing the words but feeling the emotional impact as well. Having worked in adult and pediatric populations, I understand that all ages and populations deserve respect, kindness and compassion. I have worked as a mental health clinician with adolescents, teens, transitional age youth, young and older adults. From a nursing perspective, I am very aware of medical issues that often affect our mental health and may need assessment by a physician to provide the best treatment, while I offer the skills that increase abilities to cope with those needs. I provide experiences in your session to help you realize your worth, build coping skills, regain confidence as well as compassion for all you have experienced in life, continue to grow through challenges, and progress toward the goal you desire.

Honesty, integrity, insight, awareness, knowledge, relief and resolutions are what you'll get with me. I believe the theraputic process is organic and our sessions will unfold overtime, focusing on getting you to a place where you can think clearly, understand yourself better and feel solid. I am an out of the box thinker and doer with full acceptance for all lifes wonders. Differences are appealing and I welcome them with open arms, encouraging you to be your absolute self %100 of the time. If you need a jump start, help figuring out what makes you tick, what makes you happy, what your authentic self needs to thrive, I'd love to work with you. Life throws curve balls that can be annoying, frustrating, shocking at times. I get it because I've been there. It's ok and healthy to ask for help. My specialties include insight oriented talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused and strategic therapy. My history is working with adults who have depression and anxiety, relationship distress, anger management issues, trauma histories, existential crisis and have co-occurring disorders which require medication treatment. I work with couples who seek help communicating and bringing the love back into their relationship. I provide psycho-education and real life solutions to problems that seem unsolvable at face value, but with that one tweak, you find out they were solvable all along. I fully believe in the connection between body and mind and weave differing modalities into therapy in order to address each component of healing and wellness. Often we don't realize that just one simple tweak can launch you into the lifetime you want. Are you struggling with personal challenges affecting your relationships, work, social life and, most importantly, yourself. Do you miss that hope, that loving feeling for your partner or your kids? Complex, yet common, issues around love, family, purpose in life, and doing what truly makes you happy, have become overwhelming and you’re ready to do something different. Are you feeling underwhelmed? You may have recently undergone a loss, job change, life change, a psychiatric or medical emergency, and are feeling completely stuck. I believe your truth is in you, and my role of therapist is to provide emotional support, insight, and to help you navigate through past and present so you can have the future you deserve.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by California rather than a city like LA?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across California from San Francisco to San Diego! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in California.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
