Welcome! My name is Laura Curry, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#113832) dedicated to helping people navigate life's challenges and discover their own paths to hope and resilience. My professional journey has given me a deep and varied perspective on mental health. From working with young children in schools to supporting adults in crisis residential and substance use programs, I have gained extensive experience serving clients from a diverse range of backgrounds and needs. This broad experience allows me to provide care that is both compassionate and grounded in real-world understanding. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and specialize in using evidence-based approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). My areas of expertise include managing anxiety, grief, and the impacts of trauma. On a personal note, I have been married for over 20 years and am a mother of two. This lived experience informs my work and reinforces my belief in the power of connection and support. My goal is to empower you to build a stronger toolkit of skills so you can not only cope with life but truly thrive.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel a bit intimidating, and it's completely normal to feel unsure about opening up to someone new. Please know that our first session is all about creating a space where you feel comfortable. I'll take a moment to introduce myself, and we'll go over important details like the confidentiality limitations and your rights as a client. From there, the focus is entirely on you. I'll simply listen as you share what's been on your mind and what brought you to therapy. There's no pressure to tell me your entire life story all at once. We'll explore what you'd like to work on and start to sketch out a path forward together, based on what feels right for you. It's a foundational session designed to make sure you leave feeling heard, understood, and a little more hopeful about the journey ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

The most important tool I bring to our sessions is my authentic self. I believe in being genuine and true to who I am, and I hope to create a space where you feel you can do the same. This authenticity is at the heart of our work together. I want to show you that resilience can be built, new skills can be learned, and that the things we've been through don't have to define us. We all carry scars from our past, but those experiences can also be the foundation for incredible strength. I truly believe that failure can promote growth and empathy. Life often deals us a difficult hand—situations we didn't choose and events that feel unfair. And while those cards aren't always a winning one, I am optimistic and hopeful that we can exchange them for something healthier and better. My passion is to help you find the strength within yourself to not only cope with life's challenges but to truly thrive, transforming your burdens into a source of personal empowerment.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Who I'm Here to Help I'm here to support individuals, couples, and families who are looking for a place to work through the tough stuff in life. My experience has equipped me to help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, grief, addiction, chronic illness, and relationship issues. I also have a special place in my heart for first responders, military veterans, and new parents who are navigating postpartum challenges. Whether you're a child, a teen, or an adult, I am here to meet you where you are and help you move forward. Ultimately, my goal is to walk alongside anyone who is ready to begin their journey toward healing and growth. Whether you're looking to overcome past trauma, manage daily stress, or simply find new ways to feel more like yourself, I am here to help. I genuinely look forward to the possibility of our paths crossing.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

At Your Mental Health Matters Professional Corporation, I take an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from a variety of evidence-based modalities to best meet the unique needs of each client. No two individuals or families are the same, and I believe treatment should reflect that. By blending techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), and trauma-informed practices, I am able to create a flexible and personalized plan that supports growth and healing. This approach allows me to adapt interventions in real time, ensuring clients receive the strategies and perspectives that resonate most with their goals and circumstances. For some, this may mean focusing on building coping skills and resilience; for others, it may involve exploring relational patterns, processing trauma, or developing mindfulness and acceptance practices. The eclectic model provides the freedom to use what works best for each client, rather than limiting therapy to a single framework. Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients with a comprehensive set of tools and insights that promote long-term well-being, stronger relationships, and improved daily functioning. More information about my therapeutic approach and services can be found on my website: https://www.mentalhealthmatterspc.org/.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as one of the core approaches in my work with clients. CBT is a well-researched and effective method for addressing a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress-related difficulties. It is based on the understanding that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected, and by identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns, clients can experience meaningful changes in how they feel and function. In therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to increase awareness of negative or distorted thinking patterns and to replace them with more balanced, constructive perspectives. Together, we practice skills that not only reduce symptoms but also strengthen coping, resilience, and problem-solving abilities. CBT sessions often include goal setting, developing practical strategies, and exploring real-life applications so clients can actively use these skills outside of therapy. Because each client’s story and needs are unique, I integrate CBT techniques with other therapeutic methods when appropriate, ensuring treatment is personalized and effective. This flexible and client-centered approach helps individuals build a toolkit that supports both immediate relief and long-term growth.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into my work with clients as a way to address challenges with emotional regulation, stress management, and relationship dynamics. With extensive training in DBT and years of direct clinical experience leading both individual and group DBT sessions, I draw on this evidence-based approach to help clients create meaningful and lasting change. DBT focuses on building practical skills in four core areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. In therapy, I guide clients in learning and practicing these skills, while also supporting them in applying what they learn to real-life situations. This approach empowers individuals to navigate overwhelming emotions, improve communication, and develop healthier coping strategies. My use of DBT is always client-centered and integrated with other therapeutic methods such as CBT, ACT, and trauma-informed care, ensuring treatment is tailored to each individual’s needs. The goal is not only to reduce distress but also to build resilience, improve functioning, and support long-term personal growth.
