I believe in the value of building a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship to tap into your internal strength, self-expertise, and self-expression to promote growth and support healing. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, #126521, in California, and I graduated with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from California Institute of Integral Studies in 2015.
Initially we will identify what's most important to work with in therapy relative to the context of your life and background and begin to explore what will be helpful and relevant insights. I work from a Person-Centered foundation utilizing approaches and interventions such as Narrative Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and others to meet the needs of each individual client. I am trained and specialize in Expressive Arts Therapy (the use of music, visual arts, writing, and other arts in therapy), which is a powerful tool to support growth and increase awareness in conjunction with talk therapy interventions. I also support clients with their creative processes in their creation of art and related creative endeavors. Creativity and creative thinking can be a powerful tool in exploring growth, challenges and change in all areas of life.
I work from a trauma-informed perspective, with training and clinical experience to approach therapy through the lens of the complex influence trauma can have on all aspects of our lives. I strongly value diversity and utilize a multicultural perspective in support of social equality. I have a personal background as a musician, with a passion for song-writing and exploring sound as well as other forms of art. Times which are available to book on my calendar are recurring weekly or biweekly times I have open. If other days and times are required on a recurring basis for subsequent sessions they may not be immediately available, but weekly times do open up regularly so we can also look for a compatible time to open up. So please try to book an opening on my calendar which will work as a recurring weekly or biweekly time if possible if you may be interested in regular ongoing sessions following our first session. Feel free to message me on this platform or reach out via email at tedatwoodlmft@gmail.com if you'd like a consultation first or to explore scheduling options beyond times posted on my Grow calendar. I'm looking forward to working with you!
Looking at how early dynamics with caregivers and previous relationships can influence relationship dynamics going forward, with the goal of increasing potential for feeling of security in relationships.
I believe the client is the expert in their own life and will look to you regarding what's important to work on, and I use positive regard to support the client in their capacity for personal growth.
Exploring how we view the story of ourselves, disentangling identity from challenges and societal influences, and finding ways to rewrite the narrative that are more accurate and affirming of one's true value.
Exploring thought patterns particularly negative ones that are not serving one's best interest or create challenges.
Acknowledging the present experience with it's challenges then turning attention to grounding sources such as the breath, the body, what's in front of us, and what engages us in a positive manner.
