Congratulations for taking the step to seek counseling. The world we live in is increasingly complex, and we can find ourselves feeling disconnected, stressed, and uncertain about what direction to take. How do we identify solutions for our life’s challenges? How do we let go of stress and sleep at night? As a therapist, I have counseled with individuals and families for over ten years and have found that problem-solving does not have to be stressful, and that we can work through our toughest issues. It is common to believe that people in our relationships, or circumstances in our lives cause us to feel the way we do. But it is our thinking, and the way we relate to people and circumstances, that create our feelings and emotions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us observe what we are feeling and identify the thoughts that create our feelings. With increased self-awareness, we determine which of our thoughts and perceptions are distorted and unhelpful. As our thinking becomes more realistic, we feel better. There are several therapy methods that are effective in creating positive change, including Narrative Therapy, Goal Setting, Visioning for Personal Growth, and Mindfulness to promote focus and attention. Let’s engage in a conversation to explore your individual needs, and how best to meet them.

Does it feel like you can never fully catch your breath? That life is going too fast and tasks that once were trivial for you now seem overwhelming or exhausting? Keeping up with this rapidly changing world takes an immense amount of emotional fortitude. My hope is to be able to help others navigate life's obstacles with an authentic and nonjudgmental approach. I specialized in Trauma while earning my degree and have helped many individuals, couples, and families work through and overcome the aftermath of traumatic events. I also have several years of experience helping people struggling with anxiety and depression. One of the most important aspects of the therapeutic healing process is the connection between the client and therapist, so I encourage authentic communication if you do not feel we are a good fit as it can be an example of advocating for yourself in a powerful way.

Hello, my name is Lee. I’m a licensed clinical social worker with the state of California. I spent the majority of my career helping people with severe mental illness to achieve stability while searching for meaning within acute care settings. For the past 5 years I’ve been working with team of specialists looking to incorporate more trauma based treatment into the state facilities. Through this exploration I’ve developed a deeper understanding between the interplay of trauma and childhood experiences. The connection between trauma and all of the maladaptive coping styles that I saw in group homes, recovery centers and the VA, became apparent to me. What some might call symptoms I might interpret as adaptations to deal with life. That fundamental understanding is what makes me the therapist that I am. In the words of Anita Sawyer PhD, “It’s those who are comfortable with ambiguity that can see unique perspectives to bridge connection. Connection is the essence of healing.”

Hello, my name is Derek Nunn and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of California. My approach to our collaboration is a solution-focused therapeutic approach revolving around you being the expert with your desired outcomes and my use of specific questions to help identify and amplify strengths, skills, and resources moving you in the direction of your preferred future. Each session is driven by you as we will address your best hopes for each conversation to encourage a respectful collaboration between the two of us. We will also explore increasing psychological flexibility utilizing skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I have worked with diverse populations in varying settings and programs such as schools, community mental health programs, crisis intervention team programs, and outpatient settings providing individual and group services to clients ages 8-75 both face-to-face and on telehealth platforms. Currently, I have availability to work with individuals ages 18 and older through telehealth only. After working in the fire service for 14 years and recognizing the need to bridge the gap between public safety and mental health services, I transitioned into the mental health field in 2014 and discovered passion for helping people of various ages and health needs. Therapeutically, I have gravitated towards solution-focused therapy blended with acceptance and commitment therapeutic work, mainly because of the drive I have to maintain hope for others, engrained in me from my fire service career. If you are looking for court mandated counseling, seeking letters for emotional support animals, work disability, custody, or other court related services, I do not provide those services, and refer individuals to other providers having those services as their specialties. I am looking forward to working with you to build solutions towards your preferred future.

I enjoy helping people by listening in a way that the client feels heard and understood. This then allows for better work to happen as strategies and coping tools are developed. I enjoy working with many different types of issues as we are all complex. My communication style I believe in, an open, caring, honest, and direct style of communication. I enjoy working with adults who struggle with anger management. It's important to identify and understand the root cause of anger . Often, clients discover that hurt, shame, fear, embarrassment or loss are the triggers to unresolved anger. The good news is this can be solved, allowing clients to live more healthy, nurturing and fulfilled lives. I use a strength based, skill driven, cognitive approach that is backed by research. Focus is given on identifying and eliminating thinking patterns that lead to unwanted aggressive behavior, homework assignments are provided to track daily thoughts and emotions and communication skills are taught to help you say what you mean - in a meaningful way.

Counseling is a passion for me. It is my practice, I support each client to discover their own inner resources and strengths while gaining personal empowerment. My passion is working with survivors of trauma to break cycles of transgenerational trauma to create new paths, traditions, and coping strategies for a healthy well-being. I utilize various treatment modalities which include but are not limited to psycho-dynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness. My approach is of a strength-based nature using relational therapy techniques, interwoven with threads of narrative therapy. I enjoy utilizing a nontraditional approach to therapy and am hoping to de-stigmatize mental health in communities of color. As a survivor of trauma myself, I aim to help make meaning of the individuals life experiences and assist them in moving from surviving to thriving. I believe my life experiences can help provide resonance, a helpful tool in providing empathy which is important to the healing journey. I am trauma informed, using whole body therapy to build relationships with individuals who want to trust themselves and others. My approach incorporates the belief that curiosity guides your discovery of self. I will ask questions that can help clients understand how they are in the world and from that perspective they can decide what changes they want to make. It is a useful tool for me to use embodiment that connects clients to their body, mind and spirit respecting their own inner wisdom, their past and present. I utilize emotional education that demystify feelings, emotions, and behavior so the client can make adaptive choices and build strategies that connect them to their own values and help them nurture the relationships they deserve. As a therapist in the community for over 2 decades, I have worked with a range of people across the spectrum helping them achieve their goals.

I have found that each individual comes with their unique story and background. I started seeing clients out of my area when the pandemic started and found I could help more clients using the telehealth platforms. This inspired me to continue to reach those clients who desire telehealth for various reasons. Life can be busy with schedules and finding time for therapy is not always easy. Telehealth can make therapy a little easier.

Sports create a lot of pressure in and out of the sport. Whether it is keeping grades up during school to continue to play a sport or a professional athlete having personal problems. I am here for you. *To ensure enough time for your appointment, please make the appointment on Saturdays at the start of the hour. For example 9:00 am or 11:00 am. For Thursday evening, it is only scheduled for 6:30 pm.

Trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, I am available to help clients navigate trauma, anxiety, relational issues, and communication. As a first generation Eritrean American born and raised in the Bay Area, I struggled with a sense of belonging throughout my adolescence, often straddling the line between multiple identities and insecurities surrounding the idea of not being “American enough" and not being “African enough.” Early on in college, I took a psychology class that helped me further understand the human condition and its applications in my own life. I learned transformative concepts in terms of moods, relationships, and behaviors, prompting me to further pursue the field of psychology. Since then, I have taken it upon myself to get advanced training in various therapeutic approaches, which I believe help clients get the most out of their therapy experience.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. My passion for counseling started in 6th grade where I was nominated to be a peer counselor and I saw the power of how communication, active reflective listening and conflict resolution could shift relationships. I grew up in a chaotic household and studying psychology helped me to develop compassion, empathy and understanding where there was profound pain. My own experience with trauma, depression and anxiety helps me to understand clients from a lived perspective.

Hello, my name is Max, and I am an LCSW practicing in California. I currently have one opening available every other Monday at 7:15pm. For many people, the hardest part of the therapy process is getting started. Asking someone to go to all the work of finding not just a therapist, but the right therapist for them, all while in the middle of a mental health crisis? It can be a daunting task. My practice centers around making that process as painless as possible, so that we can get right to the core of what made you decide to seek therapy in the first place, and get to work on working on you.
