Katie Jacobs

LCSW20 years of experience

I work with young adults, adults, couples and older adults as well. I focus a lot on relationship issues ranging from dating in one's twenties to couples who have been together for a lifetime and are struggling with issues of aging and various life transitions. I work with people experiencing anxiety, grief, divorce and depression.

I work with high achieving and highly successful, motivated young adults, adults and couples who are usually struggling with relationship issues, life transition issues, loss and grief, separation and divorce, imposter syndrome, anxiety and depression. I utilize a myriad of approaches combined with a supportive, nurturing, collaborative effort.

I am very hands on and proactive and like to work collaboratively with clients.

First session

I love when someone feels excited and hopeful that they are starting their healing journey with me and that they feel safe and heard and understood.

Strengths

I feel that I am sensitive and like to meet the client where they are at. If I sense that a client just needs to feel supported and vent I will try and work with this style. I do like to be direct at times and help get clients "unstuck" from their patterns but this is also up to whether that particular client is ready and willing. As I said above, I do have a lot of life experience and I often will share these insights if the client is open to this approach.

Ideal clients

I have had a successful private practice as an LCSW for many years now. Because I am an LCSW and at this stage of my life , I would like to give back to a more varied population and address more socio-economic diversity. My existing clients tend to be highly motivated and successful people themselves and I want to expand my practice to people that are not as fortunate. I would also like to share my experience with Grief and loss - anyone going through a break up or the loss of a loved one - I have had a lot of personal experience with this and I think having walked in those shoes is always very helpful as a therapist in terms of understanding and compassion and wisdom and healing.

Treatment methods

Supportive

I try to meet the client where they are at and collaboratively work to support and problem solve and help people choose a better narrative for how they want to live their lives. I do this by using a combination of many approaches including exploration and processing of past history, childhood and adult issues and patterns and behaviors that are causing distress, as well as solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy but always with a Humanistic and compassion based approach.
