As a therapist, the most important aspect of therapy is working together to create goals for therapy and create a path for meaningful change. Change is an element that is uncomfortable to most people, but by working together, we can establish lasting change through the use of each individuals strengths and by providing support. My approach is practical, I work from a cognitive perspective using cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical therapy, exposure response prevention, and positive psychology.
All behavior is purposeful. This means that we never do anything for no reason. Even when our behavior appears confusing or counterproductive to our values, our behavior has meaning and purpose. Therapy is a setting where we can gain insight about the origins of our perceptions, thinking and behavior. With clearer understanding, we are better equipped to identify factors within our control and consider alternative responses to our conditions. We gain awareness of the needs that are being met by potentially self-defeating thinking or behaviors and have a special opportunity to practice new thinking in the safety of therapy.

Prior to receiving my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 1985, I trained extensively as a Modern Dancer for 10 years. During these years I became deeply involved in emerging positive psychologies and Eastern/Buddhist/Taoist studies. This was the beginning of the interface between what is now referred to as Mindfulness based approaches to psychotherapy and Eastern philosophies, especially Buddhist. Mindfulness approaches to psychotherapy are now at the forefront of evidence-based interventions.
I have spent more than the past 20 years studying and practicing the interface between psychotherapy and personal psychological growth. Over the years I have integrated various theoretical approaches, including depth psychodynamic theories. I will be happy to discuss my approach with you further should you choose to contact me to consider engaging in psychotherapeutic work with me.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker who believes therapy should feel like a place where you can finally exhale. I’ve been in this field for over a decade and currently serve clients across different settings. I’m a Co-founder of a private practice, Ember & Bloom Health and Wellness, in my hometown- where I currently work as a therapist.
I decided to join the Grow platform in effort expand my reach for mental health care and be accessible for people who may not be within driving distance of my office.
My approach is warm, honest, and person-centered, with a focus on helping clients better understand themselves, navigate difficult seasons, and build practical tools for real life. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and the everyday overwhelm that can come with being human.
