New to Grow
Hello and welcome! I'm Pam and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who loves working with people wherever they may be in their lifespan. From adolescents and teens to adults of all ages, I enjoy building a trusted relationship while providing a warm, collaborative and compassionate space where clients can safely reflect, set goals and take action toward building healthy coping skills and managing stress. My approach is unique to each client's needs with a sound foundation in looking through a holistic lens of overall wellness, helping to identify heartfelt, strengths-based qualities focused on resilience and growth. I have experience working with issues related to anxiety, depression, over-thinking habits, life changes, parenting, relationships and family dynamics. Working together in a non-judgmental, affirming space, together we can explore practical and educational tools to help you envision a path to life goals that can bring clarity whether you're in school, in your personal or professional life or if you feel lost and are searching for direction.
I get very excited for an initial session because that is where I get to meet you and start the beginning of getting to know you! I like to reassure each and every client that I offer a warm space where they can pull up a chair and come as they are. I'll help you to understand what to expect from the start of sessions, answer any questions about the process of growing through therapy, provide support and allow you to feel heard. We'll collaboratively work to identify initial concerns while encouraging strengths and a sense of hope. We'll go at your own pace to assure your comfort-level, gradually building trust and a space to prioritize your life and the way you would like to be living it.
Most of us know the feeling of wanting to learn how to better navigate life, especially when circumstances feel hard, uncertain or even scary. How do we get to a place where we can feel more at peace and more confident in ourselves? This is where we begin! I take a soft-spoken, gentle and comforting approach during sessions where I encourage honest vulnerability when you're ready. At the same time, as we progress, I'm not afraid to challenge you when you're thinking becomes set and it may be unintentionally blocking your growth. If things seem difficult and unclear, I'll be there to help guide and support you, as well as celebrate your "wins". Working together is my goal in building a trusted relationship where I encourage genuine curiosity and openness in exploring your history, where you find yourself now and where you'd like to see yourself in the future.

I like to work together with a compassion-based approach, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a collaborative toolkit designed to help you understand yourself better. Instead of "fixing" what feels wrong, the focus is on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and patterns at your own pace and gradually begin to recognize the connection and influence your thoughts have on your emotions, moods, behavior and life outlook. In this way, you can begin to feel empowered to identify "automatic thoughts" and we can explore these together with curiosity to track how certain situations trigger specific feelings. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialized form of CBT providing an action-oriented framework utilizing mindfulness strategies and tools to help manage very intense emotions and learn skills to feel empowered to choose healthy behaviors instead of impulsive or harmful actions.
In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the process of clarifying values is a foundational practice where you are able to begin to identify your heart's deepest, most meaningful desires for how you want to behave and show up in the world. We can look at values as a type of "compass" to give you a direction to head in and to help you see where your life currently stands in relation to your ideals. We may look at various domains such as considering your work/career/education, relationships, personal growth/health and or leisure activities like hobbies and what you love to do for fun.
When utilizing a Rogerian approach (often called Person-Centered Therapy), I take a holistic focus to work together in recognizing that your mental health is inextricably linked to your physical body, your relationships and your environment. We work on bridging the gap between struggles that come from a "mismatch" between who we actually are and who we think we should be. This form of therapy provides a non-judgmental space, is generally non-directive (meaning you won't find worksheets or "homework" unless you explicitly ask for them), reflective and empowering.
A strength-based approach can act as a "talent scout", helping you identify the internal resources and external supports you've already used to survive and navigate life. We employ a social model of health, acknowledging that while symptoms exist, they do not define your identity and learned coping skills can include reframing techniques, learning changes in language to adjust narrative stories and identifying character strengths as specific "muscles" to apply to current mental health challenges. These are the building blocks that help support you where you are and explore values and goals to create a more joy-filled life.
