New to Grow
I really enjoy people. I was born with a natural curiosity for people and why they are who they are. I've always wanted to challenge myself and get what I can out of life. Which has given me a lot of life experience. The military, martial arts, marriage, fatherhood, and counseling have given me some of the most formative experiences of my life. This is one of my favorite quotes, "Mistakes are part of the dues one pays for a full life." - Sophia Loren
I like to give a brief explanation of my worldview and what the therapeutic process looks like. Then I like to open it up to the client for any questions they might have about me or my approach to counseling. After that I like to hear their story. What they want to work on, what's troubling them, and so on. It's an opportunity for me to help them feel heard. I did my job when they leave the first session feeling like a weight has been lifted off of them.
I'm a naturally good listener. I'm very present and engaged. I like to give people space to express themselves, however I will always be driving the conversation. It's my responsibility to help my clients set goals and achieve them. Some goals take years to attain and some goals can take a session or two. I have the patience and resilience to work with clients on long term goals. I'm naturally accepting and understanding of people's personalities and histories. I enjoy people and I look forward to getting to know you.
My ideal client is someone open to the process. A person willing to build a relationship with me and share their experience in a judgement free environment. A person who is open to change taking time and being unique to them. A person willing to explore their potential and build on their strengths. I really enjoy clients that have tried counseling with other therapists and didn't find it effective. I like to troubleshoot what they need and how we can give it to them.
I help clients track their thoughts and understand how their thoughts are affecting their emotions. Our emotions control our behavior and when a client can manage their thoughts, they can ultimately manage their behavior.
