I am a trauma-based therapist, psychodynamic in orientation. I work with clients holistically, believing we are more than the sum of our parts and our trauma's. I tend to consider myself anti-diagnosis putting a major emphasis on making linkages to our pasts including prior relationships and family ties. I am also a dual diagnosis therapist believing with substance abuse concerns are composed of mental health issues and negative experiences. I also prefer but do not find necessary involvement with services from partners, husbands/wifes ect. I find the majority of clients we see also possess stress from unresolved issues with relationships, present and past.

I believe everybody has strengths and talents as well as a place to fit in among this world as well as a purpose. However, at times we all need help to find our strength as life challenges get in the way and we get stuck. “What is some wisdom you have gained through your experiences?” is a question I will ask you when you choose to work with me. We will explore this question together, building on your experiences, and you will learn to identify ways to use this wisdom and strength in the future. I have extensive experience with substance use and with adolescents. I am also a former psychology teacher and academic counselor. I have a passion for working with teens and adults dealing with issues such as anxiety, trauma, depression, life changes, relationship concerns, LGBTQ issues, ADHD, and grief as well as substance abuse and families dealing with a loved one with substance abuse issues. I take a CBT, person centered, and a whole person approach meaning we look at your support system, environment, and daily routines as part of the puzzle. I create a safe space for you to open up and address things that may be hard for you to face on your own. Together we can make a plan to create and follow through on changes that will increase your strength and resilience, creating a better path forward

My approach to therapy is person-centered, thoughtful, and exploratory. I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-based techniques. I tailor my work to each individual, recognizing that everyone’s experiences and needs are different. I take a holistic view of mental health. This means we will look not only at your thoughts and emotions, but also at your environment, relationships, and daily routines. I believe these areas all play an important role in how we feel and function. I believe that healing emotional and mental health is not just about just one thing. Sometimes it's about working to heal important relationships. Sometimes it's about understanding the brain chemistry behind moods changes or repetitive thoughts. It might be about examining one's relationship to food or to mind-altering substances -or the internet. Most often it's about some combination of these, and other things. Similarly, I don't think that a therapy session should always take the same form. Sometimes a person just needs to talk and be listened to. But other times they need a more directive approach. They might need to explore some new ways to relax, or to learn skills to be able to observe their thoughts without falling into familiar patterns of self-defeat. We'll work to figure out what make the most sense for you at this time. Always, my goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and supported as we work together toward meaningful change.

If you are struggling with issues related to anxiety and depression, you are not alone. In today’s world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the daily rigors and uncertainties of life. Thoughts like “am I good enough?” or “can I do this?” typically bring to the surface feelings of sadness, self-doubt and inadequacy. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I work together with my patients to identify and change the negative self-talk so that they can face their fears and expand their comfort zone. Hi, I’m Sema—and I get it. I know that when you’re going through a difficult time, it can feel like no one truly hears you. Sometimes, even well-meaning people try to “fix” things without fully understanding what you're going through. That’s why I aim to offer something different: a safe, judgment-free space where you feel genuinely heard. My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, connection, and collaboration. I believe in working alongside my clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, identify the core of their challenges, and build practical tools to manage and move through them. Together, we don’t just talk about the problem—we work toward healing, growth, and long-term resilience. I earned my LMSW from Wayne State University in 2016 and have since supported individuals navigating a wide range of challenges including mental health concerns, grief and loss, substance use, complex family dynamics, and the emotional toll of physical health issues. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and integrative therapeutic techniques that help clients reframe negative thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and move toward becoming the best version of themselves. You don't have to do this alone. I'm here to support you, listen to you and walk with you through whatever you're facing.

As an individual who struggled with alcohol addiction, depression, and anxiety, my life experiences, as well as my education and faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of my life, have provided me with the opportunity to serve those who are struggling with life. Everyone has life struggles. I am prepared to help individuals and couples learn how to live life amidst struggles, such as depression, addiction, worry, financial stress, or marriage difficulties. I am blessed and honored to be in a position to use the gifts God has entrusted me with to serve others. My specialty area is addictions. I struggled with alcohol addiction for about 23 years. Through God's redeeming grace and an excellent education, I am well equipped to help those struggling with addiction and the anxiety, depression, worry, and fear that may or may not be attached to the addiction. My life experience with addiction has equipped me with an understanding about addiction. Not just for the individual, but for the affected family/social network as well. My education at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary has also equipped me with God's ultimate resource for our afflictions - The Word of God.

As a behaviorist, I believe that the environments in which we develop ultimately play the most significant role in our actions, decisions, and outcomes. Without the proper space for growth, healing, and self-development, one may face difficulties in achieving self-realization and self-actualization. Human-beings are social creatures – genetically designed, behaviorally conditioned, and evolutionarily driven. We possess certain intrinsic, natural needs and adaptations that have developed over millions of years. If these dualistically basic and complex needs remain unfulfilled, we will struggle to attain this self-actualization.

Hello, I’m A.J., a Licensed Master Level Social Worker from the U.P. of Michigan. Faith, Family, and Fellowship are things that I strive to live for daily. My faith is very important to me. I am involved in Men’s Ministry inside and outside of my church. Haggai 2:9 is a verse that is close to my family's heart: “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house, says the Lord Almighty, in this place I will grant peace, declares the Lord Almighty.” My goal and prayer is that I can help individuals move into a better place than they were when therapy first began. My wife and I have three boys and one grandson. Our family enjoys spending time outside on our 20-acre property “Creation Acres” or getting away camping. My boys and I enjoy spending time in the woods or on the lake. I graduated from Ferris State University in 2018 with my Master’s Degree in Social Work after attending Lake Superior State University completing Criminal Justice / Public Safety Emphasis Bachelor’s Degree and a Paramedic Technology Associate’s Degree in 2008. I have experience working directly with law enforcement as a dispatcher and working in the public safety field as a fire fighter and as an EMT. I currently work for the Michigan Department of Corrections as a mental health specialist. Prior to this career, I worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as a foster care case manager and a juvenile justice / juvenile delinquency case manager. I look forward to working with you during your journey. NOTICE – Due to my current position with the Michigan Department of Corrections, I am unable to accept referrals or work with anyone on parole or probation.

Counseling can foster personal development in whatever way you may be seeking and help build the life you so deeply deserve. If that's what you're looking for, I'm here when you're ready to share

I have been in practice in Kalamazoo for over 15 years, working with children, teens, and adults navigating challenges such as trauma, stress, and family or parenting concerns. I am trained in trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused CBT, and play therapy. In addition to my clinical work, I am also a school social worker and a father of eight, which gives me a deep understanding of the challenges families and children face every day. I take a person-centered approach, which means I focus on creating a safe, supportive space where you can feel heard and respected. Together, we will identify your goals and move at a pace that feels right for you.

Whether you’re navigating a specific challenge or seeking deeper self-awareness, I’m here to walk alongside you with curiosity, care, and non-judgment. Together, we’ll work at your pace to build insight, develop tools that truly fit your life, and create meaningful, lasting change. I look forward to getting to know you.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective mental health support to individuals seeking guidance and healing. With a deep commitment to promoting wellness and empowerment, I have a wealth of experience and expertise in counseling. While I have worked with clients from all over the country, I hope to primarily work with clients from the state of Michigan since that is where I am licensed. I attended the University of Michigan for my Undergraduate education, and then attended Graduate School for Counseling at San Jose State.
