I have been doing clinical counseling for 25 years, and unlike most providers, I have a doctorate degree in counseling. I believe that the extra education helps me to provide more thorough, informed, and helpful feedback for clients. I currently provide therapy on a broad range of issues including trauma, anxiety, substance abuse and mood disorders. I am also comfortable working with sexual, gender, and eating issues. I have experience as well with neurodivergence and autism spectrum clients. My passion in a clinical setting involves working with trauma and dissociation, in particular clients with Dissociative Identity Disorder. I believe in giving you tangible feedback and practical solutions. I intend to demystify the process of counseling so that you can truly benefit from your work. In terms of my own self-care I enjoy walking outdoors as a means of reconnecting with nature. Recently, I rediscovered tennis, and have been playing doubles with a local group twice a week. I also recently started playing ping pong and pickleball.

"There can be no transforming of darkness into light ... without emotion." -Jung Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the core of my training. It embraces the belief systems of the past that affect your present. It's a state-of-mind that defines thinking that affects emotional awareness. To become aware is not to change, but to understand and accept. Carrying guilt or shame of the past, triggers the conflict of now. I don't offer advice - I offer choices - a chance to choose your own method of healing that fits you - not something others feel 'should' be. Come. Sit. Talk. Let's wander your path together. I began my work in the field in 2007 and have been fully licensed since 2017. I consider myself to be an exceptionally empathetic and caring counselor who meets my clients where they're at. I will push my clients to experience emotions and to sit with them in ways they haven't before. However, I do this in a safe manner where we simply expand the limits each time and create safety in each session to fully allow the client to embrace the process. I strive to help my clients make sense of their life and the experiences they've had. I have great respect for each individual's journey and understand there is value in all of us. I strive for all of my clients to feel seen, heard, respected, accepted, and not judged. From the very first session, my clients feel heard through my exceptional empathic listening skills. I ask evocative questions to get to the heart of the matter and to push the client to think more in depth and perhaps even with a different perspective about struggles or experiences that have caused them strife.

One of my biggest passions in life is helping women, overcome past hurts, failures, ineffective communication, and self-defeating behaviors, which limits their forward momentum. I also work with young adults and men, as they grapple with challenges such as: communication difficulties, boundary issues and life transitions. I help my clients explore childhood experiences, defense mechanisms, and survival tools that once worked, but as adults, they are disruptive to their adult self and relationships. I am here to listen and help you find ways to walk in your authentic self, no longer bound by guilt and shame. I strive to create a compassionate atmosphere, judgment free and safe space, as you work through depression, anxiety, disappointment, low self-esteem, co-dependency and other issues that can be debilitating. I empower, encourage, listen and help you identify your values. I appreciate this new reality where mental health is no longer being swept under the carpet, instead people are coming out to tell their stories and are seeking assistance to deal with their hurts and pain. If you are ready to work with someone as you tackle these issues and you are ready to exhale and be able to say, "At Last I'm Free" take your first step, pick up the phone and schedule a consultation with me. You don't have to walk this healing journey alone, just be ready to do the work!

Hi everyone! I'm Josh. Do you struggle with social anxiety and poor self-confidence? I know that overcoming it is possible! Many come to therapy for social anxiety because of childhood trauma and how it has manifested in their adult lives. Often this manifests in feelings of poor self-confidence, poor self-worth, and poor self-confidence. At its root, the fundamental belief of those who have social anxiety is the belief, “I am not enough.” Clients get into the habit of comparing themselves to others and it makes them feel inadequate and insecure. Over time clients begin to avoid situations that elicit their anxiety, particularly social situations. This can lead to social isolation and loneliness. Clients will present with complaints of frequent panic attacks, not having a romantic partner, not having friends, not being happy in their jobs and feeling disconnected from life. They are labeled by others as shy, quiet, or introverted. This scenario described myself for much of my life which gives me lived experience to better able to assist you. I help individuals combat their social fears and begin to live a rich and fulfulling life. I do this through cognitive behavioral therapy techniques primarily but also integrate solution-focused therapy, assertiveness training, exposure therapy, and acceptance & commitment therapy. Whether you're a teen struggling to make friends and socialize or you are an adult unable to speak up at work meetings or unable to ask someone out on a date, I'm here for you! Seeking therapy can be frightening but I want to assure you that you will be most welcome if you take that leap of faith!

Mark has been a Clinical Social worker for the past 16 years working in the US and UK with various client populations from Babies needing organ transplants to adults with End Stage Renal Disease. The common thread with those unwell as he puts it, has been their connection or lack thereof with positive thoughts, habits and social network. The lack of these associations generally leads to decline over time. He realized that he was most passionate about helping people stay or return to wellness rather that assisting the disease state. Mark actively pursues the link between effective nutrition and solid Mental Health and Wellness, his aim is the help clients feel like the best version of themselves.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Florida rather than a city like Tampa?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Florida from Miami to Jacksonville! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Florida.

Will my therapist take Optum?

Yes! If you use Optum you’ll be asked to verify your Member ID at the time you book the appointment. However, if you don’t have Optum you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on a specific issue?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need.

What are the "Clients say I'm" badges?

Grow Therapy asks patients about their experience with therapists after they have had a certain number of sessions. After enough responses, we add those characteristics to their profiles to help you find the best online therapists for you. We're still working on collecting this information from all our therapists.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
