The first session to gather information about the clients past as well as intentions for their future goals. Clients can expect me to listen and engage with them. I give clients a space to feel open to being vulnerable and not feel judged. I create a safe space to talk about issues and experiences in their lives. The initial session is about engagement to get to know the client and allow the client to feel comfortable sharing the known and unknown spaces in their life and mind. I am careful to craft a space that allows each client to feel no shame or guilt about who they are, what they have done or where they came from. I allow each client to know where they want to get to in life is what matters and who they are becoming is the most important. Each client is allowed to have a space to share, grow, process and evolve in a healthy and wholistic way that is both nurturing as well as challenging.
I utilize engagement techniques to create a safe space for clients to express themselves and feel heard. I assist each client with gaining insight into their strengths and learning positive coping strategies. The evidence-based techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques are utilized in sessions to assist each individual with attaining their goals.
