About me

Hi, my name is Cathrine. I am a licensed therapist in FL with over 20 years experience in the field. I hold a Masters degree in Counseling and Psychology and a Masters degree in Social Work. I help young adults, adults, and seniors, struggling with family, stress, marital problems, career burnout, anxiety, depression, and many others. I strive to help my clients become the best version of themselves, while ensuring that they feel safe during their therapy journey.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

My counseling style is a collaborative process, where the therapist and client/family work together as a team to meet goals. Initially, I may ask you a lot of questions. This is just my way of getting to know you and trying to better help you. Again, this is a secure environment, and I want you to feel free to share your feelings without judgement.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I consider myself to be open-minded and realize that every person, regardless of background, is unique in their own way. I try to convey a "worry-free" zone. I want you to feel safe telling me your concerns without the fear of being judged. It takes a lot of courage to seek counseling, and I realize that there is sometimes a stigma attached to receiving help. I take my profession very seriously and I hope that I can convey my commitment to this process.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I have worked with individuals and families with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship/family issues, PTSD, and LGBTQ+.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT in my practice for the past five years. I have found CBT the most effective therapy when dealing with anxiety. CBT not only helps with mindfulness, but may also help with maladaptive thoughts. We'll use CBT for behavior modification, including how to recognize maladaptive thoughts and manage anxiety. Examples may include helping clients work through panic attacks and anxiety disorders. When clients learn a new thought process, they find that they are less anxious and better able to manage their anxiety.

Grief Therapy

Prior to individual therapy, I worked with Hospice as a bereavement therapist. I learned a lot from working with bereaved clients and I feel confident helping and teaching people about the grieving process. Past traumas can contribute to complicated grief, where the symptoms are persistent and prolonged, making it difficult for the person suffering to function. A person's grief may be different from other's. Every person grieves differently in his or her own way, but when grief is prolonged, it can negatively affect their lifestyle. We'll focus on helping to adapt to the loss of a loved one and adjust to a new reality without him/her.

Strength-Based

Part of CBT training is also focusing on the client's strengths. With the Strength-Based approach, I help guide clients, while they retell their history of trauma and weaknesses. I identify how these thoughts/memories can be re-framed. Strength-based therapy is talk therapy that guides the client toward a retelling of their personal history/traumas with emphasis on strengths versus being a victim. When people learn that they are stronger than what they thought, sometimes their whole perspective can change and their new found knowledge can change their thinking patterns and their lack of self worth.

Within the first 15 minutes I knew I had found the help I was looking for. Came away from my first appointment with many things to think about, multiple suggestions I could actually use, powerful confirmation and clarity of current feelings and a feeling of calm & hope. Intelligent, empathetic, real and action-oriented; from one experience, recommend Cathy highly.

Talking with Cathy was an amazing experience. She was insightful non- judgmental and asked questions that really got to the heart of the issues.
