Do you overthink, replay conversations, revisit past decisions, predict problems, spiral, or get stuck in patterns that create conflict or keep you avoiding what needs to be addressed? You are thoughtful, observant, and more capable than you may currently feel. But the same mind that notices details, thinks ahead, and considers different possibilities can go into overdrive. You may feel on edge much of the time, dwell on the past, get irritated by small things, feel flat, or disconnect from things you once enjoyed. You may be going through this on your own or in a relationship with someone dealing with some of the same things. You may avoid difficult conversations, put off issues, or end up in the same conflict. Shame, fear of rejection, or trouble communicating can make it difficult to say what you really think or need. We can work on skills to communicate better, explore the expectations you bring to relationships, and recognize roles and patterns you keep replaying. Those roles may have served you long ago, but they may need revision now. I am Ramy Danon, a USC-trained Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with more than 20 years of experience. Therapy with me is a real conversation. I listen carefully, ask questions, and tell you honestly what I see. I work with men, women, and couples, and I adapt the work to what is really bothering you and what you actually want to address. I also taught university and college students for 19 years. I love helping people recognize their abilities and expand what they believe is possible. I understand how difficult it can be to trust someone, especially if you struggle to ask for help. Getting started may be the hardest part. I am eager to learn about what is bothering you.

I was born in the US, but I was raised in Mexico. I lived in Tijuana for 10 years when my parents decided to move us across the border to Chula Vista, California. As a first-generation Mexican-American, I experienced a duality of cultures. I was often judged for either being “not Mexican enough” OR “not American enough.” I also faced enormous pressure to be successful – to justify my parents’ having left their beloved country so my sibling and I could have a better life. This is one of many reasons I decided to follow this path: to help those who feel alone in their journey. That’s how I felt when acculturating to this country. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at San Diego State University (SDSU). I was going to go directly into the workforce and eventually go back for my master’s, but an awesome professor challenged me to apply right away so I wouldn’t lose momentum. So, that’s what I did. I ended up getting my Master of Social Work (MSW) at the University of Southern California. It took some time and courage to finish all my licensing requirements, but it was worth it! I’ve been licensed as a clinical social worker in California since 2019. I am certified in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals with complex and high acuity mental health needs. My work is grounded in trauma informed and trauma responsive care, with a strong commitment to creating inclusive, affirming spaces for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent clients, and individuals in rural communities. I work across the lifespan, including children (7+), adults, older adults, families, and couples. My approach is collaborative and empowering, centered on the belief that clients are the experts in their own lives and require my clinical expertise. I often describe my role as “working myself out of a job” to help clients build the insight, skills, and confidence needed to advocate for themselves and navigate systems independently. As a trauma specialist, I tailor evidence based interventions to each client’s identities, needs, strengths, and goals. My primary approaches include Somatic Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)-(EMDRIA certification pending), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I also integrate Internal Family Systems informed interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, exposure based strategies, mindfulness, and other approaches as clinically appropriate. I adapt treatment for neurodivergent clients and clients with intellectual or developmental disabilities because therapy should adjust to the person and not require the person to adjust to therapy. I am continually shaped by the courage, insight, and lived experiences clients bring into our work. Every advanced training, specialty, certification, and state license reflect lessons learned from clients. I carry their trust, stories, and influence into every session with gratitude and responsibility. My goal in my counseling is to help my clients live deeply fulfilling lives. I help clients increase their psychological flexibility through various tools and approaches including evidence-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to change their thought patterns. I use experiential approaches including Hypnotherapy to work with subconscious minds and remove blocks that are deep in their psyche. I also provide mindfulness training, which is one of the key techniques for the clients to be more present and accepting in their lives, rather than react reflexively. Each individual's struggles are complex and tied to many factors including their social environment, their physical health, the phases of their lives, skills they already possess, etc. In other words, change can happen in a variety of ways and that's what counseling can help with, pointing out the direction and even the next steps that can help the client to get to their goals and intentions. I work with clients experiencing sleep disorders, chronic pain, anxiety, mood issues, ADHD, career counseling, and those who simply need a tune-up.

I have always been fascinated by human behavior, the process of producing it and the impact it has on the lives of those involved. From my earliest days of rural living to my time in LA, I truly experienced a journey of wondering in regard to such. Engaging in my own therapy increased my understanding of many of these things. After realizing the inherent value of such work, I was compelled to help others achieve the same by making it a career. I have worked in group and private practice settings since 2004 and currently also assist in running an intensive outpatient program. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most essential factor of therapy. My clients experience a compassionate, inclusive, and nonjudgmental approach, and feel safe, understood, and cared for in our sessions as they explore their needs and obtain the understanding and skills best suited to them.

I began practicing as a therapist and psychologist in 2012 after graduating from the Higher School of Psychology in Moscow, Russia. Since then, I have had the privilege of working with diverse clients across different clinical settings and cultural environments. After relocating to the United States, I chose to continue my professional path as a Marriage and Family Therapist, bringing with me approximately 12 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through emotional, relational, and life-transition challenges. Before entering the mental health field, I spent more than 30 years working as a legal professional in consulting, corporate law, and finance. While these professions may seem quite different, both have deepened my understanding of people, relationships, decision-making, conflict, resilience, and the many ways life circumstances can shape our experiences. Working across different professional, family, organizational, and cultural systems has given me a broad perspective on the challenges people face and the strengths they draw upon to adapt, grow, and find meaning in their lives. Altogether, my professional experience spans nearly four decades across different countries, cultures, populations, and work environments. This diverse background enriches my work as a therapist and allows me to bring a thoughtful, practical, and culturally sensitive perspective to the therapeutic process. I understand that every person's story is unique, and I strive to create a space where clients feel respected, understood, and supported as they navigate life's challenges and opportunities for growth. Perhaps most importantly, I genuinely value the work I do. Being a mental health professional is more than a career for me—it is a source of purpose, meaning, and connection. I feel grateful for the opportunity to accompany people on their journey toward greater self-understanding, healing, and fulfillment, and I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with that process.

Hi there and great job on taking that first step in considering if therapy is right for you. I invite you to come with me on a journey of your own choosing where we will walk together in darkness to find the light you’ve been seeking. Whether it’s life’s little annoying stressors or more complex issues, as a trauma survivor myself, I know firsthand what this is like and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Whether you choose me or another therapist, make the choice to just give it a try. Sometimes all you need is another person to hold the light while you do the work you need to heal.
