Hi, I’m Candace Walls, and welcome to Careful Heart Counseling Services. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California, a creative soul, and someone who deeply believes in the power of intentional self-care and healing.
I specialize in working with children, youth, and adolescents ages 3–18, supporting them and their families through life’s emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. With over eight years of clinical experience and fifteen years serving Sacramento County’s community-based mental health and social service systems, I bring both expertise and heart into every space I enter.
My work with young clients focuses on helping them build emotional awareness, develop healthy coping skills, improve behavior, and feel safe expressing themselves. I partner closely with caregivers and families to strengthen connection, communication, and understanding—because when a child is supported, the whole family can begin to heal.
Hello I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been practicing in the field of Social Work for over 30 years. I have worked with many different people from a variety of cultures. I have helped both children, adolescents and adults with various concerns from criminal behaviors, addiction, and serious mental illness. I have helped people change their behavior and thinking so they can reach their potential, achieve their goals and heal emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
I believe in honoring each individual as the expert of their own life, meeting them without judgment or preconceptions. Counseling, for me, is not about labeling problems but about discovering solutions and effective coping strategies. I work with individuals of all ages, including children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families, who are facing a wide range of challenges, with a particular passion for geriatric mental health.
Embarking on therapy is a courageous and potentially life-changing decision, and I am dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. I am deeply committed to helping others realize their full potential. My areas of expertise include providing support for grief, depression, life stressors, divorce, blended families, and individuals and families involved with state agencies.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California. I use a client-centered therapeutic approach, solution-focused, strength-based, and very supportive allowing my clients to find the answers within themselves. I have over 4 years of experience working at the Department of State Hospital as a Clinical Social Worker treating patients suffering from severe mental illness and 5 years working in all five of San Luis Obispo County Hospital's Emergency Departments, specializing in mental health crisis and stabilization.
I'm a Bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with 19 years of clinical experience, 15 years licensed within private practice.
I consider myself to be bicultural. Having been raised as a first-generation American in a Latin family, I can identify with the mentality of someone living within two "worlds". Transitioning from one culture to another with seemingly different values, beliefs and language. I can easily understand the struggle that maintaining, and existing in both, can sometimes be. I've come to perceive and appreciate it as the gift of having a "bridge" that allows connection to, and understanding of, different aspects of people and life.
My education has a foundation in Clinical Psychology, woven with holistic transpersonal themes, the connection between mind, body, and spirit, and just plain down-to-earth common sense. Always keeping in mind the client's personal beliefs and values.
Greetings,
Life can be confusing, relationships can be stressful, and the present can make you feel anxious or depressed. Sometimes a painful past can surface into the moment, especially when situations are difficult or when you are experiencing major change. During these periods your mood and thoughts can be affected in negative ways. When you are feeling alone, disconnected, or confused, talking things through can make all the difference.
I work with anyone struggling to find joy, peace, and fulfillment. I offer a safe, inviting space for you to share thoughts and feelings, to vent, to feel heard, and to reorient to meaning. Please allow me to assist you finding relief and clarity. I will meet you where you are at and welcome you. I address healing on multiple levels of the body-mind connection with a focus on the notion that caring about something or someone along with experiencing meaning can counterbalance the effects of hurt, a disturbing past, or a present stressful situation or transition.
I have more than 20 years of experience helping clients navigate major change and transition, gain closure, and create new beginnings. I apply interventions from a mind-body-being perspective and assess current life stressors to distinguish between situational mood and thought disturbances from those enduring and a consequence of previous hurt or trauma.
Life can bring us challenges that feel overwhelming. As a result, you may find yourself feeling anxious, irritable, or maybe even struggling in managing your day to day life activities. If you're looking to make some changes in your life, then therapy is the perfect place to start. As an integrative client-centered therapist, I tailor my therapeutic approach to the needs of my client. You are unique and so is your journey toward healing. My job is to be flexible to your needs as we work collaboratively to help you reach your goals.

Counseling is a passion for me. It is my practice, I support each client to discover their own inner resources and strengths while gaining personal empowerment. My passion is working with survivors of trauma to break cycles of transgenerational trauma to create new paths, traditions, and coping strategies for a healthy well-being. I utilize various treatment modalities which include but are not limited to psycho-dynamic, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness. My approach is of a strength-based nature using relational therapy techniques, interwoven with threads of narrative therapy. I enjoy utilizing a nontraditional approach to therapy and am hoping to de-stigmatize mental health in communities of color. As a survivor of trauma myself, I aim to help make meaning of the individuals life experiences and assist them in moving from surviving to thriving. I believe my life experiences can help provide resonance, a helpful tool in providing empathy which is important to the healing journey. I am trauma informed, using whole body therapy to build relationships with individuals who want to trust themselves and others. My approach incorporates the belief that curiosity guides your discovery of self. I will ask questions that can help clients understand how they are in the world and from that perspective they can decide what changes they want to make. It is a useful tool for me to use embodiment that connects clients to their body, mind and spirit respecting their own inner wisdom, their past and present. I utilize emotional education that demystify feelings, emotions, and behavior so the client can make adaptive choices and build strategies that connect them to their own values and help them nurture the relationships they deserve. As a therapist in the community for over 2 decades, I have worked with a range of people across the spectrum helping them achieve their goals.
