Maria Mendez Perez is a bilingual first-generation Latina therapist who is passionate about helping adults who are experiencing overwhelming emotions due to unresolved trauma. The majority of her practice focuses on managing symptoms of depression and anxiety, and learning skills to improve emotion regulation. In my free time I love spending time with my family. When I need some alone time I spend time with our dog, read a book, or listen to a podcast, probably something on mental health.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help us figure out if we are a good match and create a tailored plan for us to work through in the follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I can offer a warm, nonjudgmental, and safe environment for you to get to the root of your distress. In my years of experience as a therapist, I have found that much can be healed through a therapeutic relationship and using evidence-based treatment approaches. I look forward to talking with you to see if EMDR therapy and DBT skills are a good fit for you.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I work with adults who are depress, anxious, stress, and have difficulty setting healthy limits and/or boundaries. They have a harder time focusing on themselves. Oftentimes, past experiences are getting in their way of them finding peace within and trauma-focused therapy can help. I offer a safe and nonjudgmental environment for you to get to the root of your distress. Together we can gain insight of: - Your unique strengths - Learn steps to calm and soothe your body - Improve your relationships - Heal unresolved trauma - Find meaning and purpose

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Effective treatment for people having difficulty with controlling their behavior and their emotions. DBT aims to assist clients to replace problem behaviors with skillful behaviors. Learn to increase awareness of their behaviors and emotions. Better manage their emotions and distress. Improve relationships.
