I invite you to come with me on a journey of your own choosing where we will walk together in darkness to find the light you’ve been seeking. Whether it’s life’s little annoying stressors or more complex issues, as a trauma survivor myself, I know firsthand what this is like and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I believe therapy should be a place where you can show up exactly as you are—without judgment, pressure, or the expectation that you have everything figured out. Clients often describe me as warm, genuine, and direct, and I believe therapy works best when it feels like a real conversation: one where you feel heard, understood, gently challenged, and equipped with practical tools you can use in everyday life.
Building a trusting, collaborative relationship is at the heart of my work. I consider it a privilege to be invited and entrusted with the task of walking alongside you during a challenging moment in your life. Seeing you grow and succeed is one of the best rewards I could ask for.
I am Daniel Karkoska. I have a broad range of experience treating trauma and gender and sexual identity in adults. I am EMDR trained and focus on uncovering what may be holding someone back from making a meaningful life change. Whether lightening the emotional load of a traumatic experience, or simply taking time to create more clarity, my approach is mindful and nonjudgmental.
I specialize in providing treatment to those who have experienced trauma, utilizing skills-based therapies such as CBT/DBT, as well as techniques from IFS and Polyvagal theory to inform the EMDR process. I find this combination to be effective in safely reconnecting with difficult emotions in helpful ways that allow for meaningful change.

Do you overthink, replay conversations, revisit past decisions, predict problems, spiral, or get stuck in patterns that create conflict or keep you avoiding what needs to be addressed?
You are thoughtful, observant, and more capable than you may currently feel. But the same mind that notices details, thinks ahead, and considers different possibilities can go into overdrive. You may feel on edge much of the time, dwell on the past, get irritated by small things, feel flat, or disconnect from things you once enjoyed. You may be going through this on your own or in a relationship with someone dealing with some of the same things.
You may avoid difficult conversations, put off issues, or end up in the same conflict. Shame, fear of rejection, or trouble communicating can make it difficult to say what you really think or need. We can work on skills to communicate better, explore the expectations you bring to relationships, and recognize roles and patterns you keep replaying. Those roles may have served you long ago, but they may need revision now.

I understand how difficult it can be to trust someone, especially if you struggle to ask for help. Getting started may be the hardest part. I am eager to learn about what is bothering you.

I am an LCSW (License Clinical Social Worker) with over 19 years of experience in the field of mental health and I have been licensed since 2010. I am an LCSW with 7 years experience looking to work with clients seeking to make a change in their mental health. You’re someone others rely on. You handle what needs to get done, maintain high standards, and rarely let things slip. From the outside, it works. Internally, it can feel like a constant undercurrent of pressure—overthinking, tension, or a sense that you’re always “on.”
Many of the patterns that keep you functioning at a high level were shaped by earlier experiences that required you to adapt quickly, stay aware, or carry more than you should have alone. Those patterns don’t just disappear—they evolve into the way you think, respond, and move through your life today.
My work is designed for high-functioning adults who are ready for a different internal experience. Together, we look beneath the surface at what’s driving these patterns and begin to shift them—so you can feel more grounded, clear, and aligned with who you actually are, not just who you’ve had to be.
This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about experiencing your life with less pressure, more intention, and a stronger connection to your authentic self.
When you’re ready to move beyond just managing and start feeling more like yourself, I’m here to help.

Using a nonjudgmental, down-to-earth approach, I help clients feel safe enough to engage in deep, honest work—identifying past trauma and unlearning negative patterns that contribute to emotional or physical distress. Ultimately, my goal is to guide clients toward a healthier, more grounded, and fulfilling life.
