I’m a licensed marriage and family therapist and credentialed art therapist (ATR-P) with experience working across the lifespan—from childhood through later life—and with multigenerational families. I use a developmental and family-systems perspective, recognizing that every life stage brings distinct needs involving safety, independence, competence, identity, relationships, purpose, caregiving, loss, and meaning. I help clients navigate anxiety, trauma, grief, cultural stress, family conflict, and major transitions through conversation, practical tools, and creative approaches when helpful. I have been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist for 20 years, and I continue to find meaning in helping people better understand themselves, work through difficult experiences, and create positive change in their lives. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel uncomfortable, especially if this is your first experience with counseling. My goal is to make therapy feel like a safe, supportive conversation where you can be yourself, speak openly, and know that you will be heard without judgment. I approach each client with empathy, compassion, acceptance, and unconditional positive regard. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship begins by creating an environment where you feel comfortable discussing what is happening in your life at your own pace. Together, we can identify what is causing distress, understand the patterns that may be contributing to it, and develop practical tools for moving forward. Over the past two decades, I have worked with individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological and psychiatric concerns, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger and emotional regulation difficulties, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder. I am comfortable working with both everyday life challenges and more complex mental health concerns. My approach to therapy is individualized and collaborative because no single method works for everyone. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client-Centered Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Existential Therapy, and Reminiscence Therapy based on each client’s needs and goals. Therapy should provide more than a place to talk. My role is to help you develop greater self-awareness, strengthen emotional regulation, improve relationships, recognize your strengths, and build practical skills that can be used outside of our sessions. Whether you are facing a specific challenge or seeking greater stability and fulfillment, we will work together toward lasting progress.

Therapy has been an important part of my own life, and I know how much healing can happen within a relationship where we feel—and are—genuinely understood. It is my experience that people rarely fit into simple explanations. We each arrive with a history, ways of coping that developed for a reason, and our own sense of what a meaningful life looks like. I approach each person with genuine respect and curiosity, without assuming I already know what their experiences mean or what is right for them. I want to understand the fuller story of who you are—not just the difficulty that brought you to therapy. From that understanding, we can look honestly at what is happening and determine what meaningful, lasting change looks like for you. Many people come to therapy because they’re struggling with something specific, while others arrive with a more difficult-to-name feeling that something isn’t quite right. They may feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck in familiar patterns, navigating a difficult relationship, grieving a loss, or simply sensing that something isn’t working the way it once did. I offer a space where you can show up as you are without needing to have everything figured out. I have worked extensively with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families through some of life’s most difficult and meaningful transitions. My approach is thoughtful, relational, and collaborative. Together, we’ll make sense of your experiences, explore the patterns that shape your life, and create space for greater understanding, growth, and change.

I received my Bachelors of Arts in Communications and Master’s of Science in Marriage Family Child Therapy from California State University, Fresno. I am also a semester from graduating with my second Master’s of Science degree in Psychology. Throughout college, I was able to represent Fresno State University as a member of the collegiate rodeo team. This was extremely special to me, as the Central Valley has been my home since the day I was born. I grew up in a small town called Lemoore, California on my family’s 100-acre cattle ranch, which was home to my family, my cousins, uncles, aunts, and grandmother and grandfather. I have been with my college sweetheart for six years now and have been married for a little over a year. With this said, I can relate to the complexity of family dynamics and interpersonal relationships, as well as the effect that they can have on our lives. My passion lies in supporting individuals because I believe that each individual has their own integral part of the human experience. Each individual is unique, bringing their own set of morals, beliefs, triggers, traumas, and more. In my role as a therapist, my objective is to assist every individual in crafting the best possible life path for themselves.

Hello, I was born and raised in Stockton, California. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17 and in 1997, after 25 yeas of service, I retired from the Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant. After retiring from the Marine Corps, I worked as a Farrier (Horseshoer), as well as a structural welder (Ironworker), as those were the most marketable skill that I had. I came to a point where old injuries came back to haunt me and I could no longer walk (several years later, thanks to a surgery through the VA, I can walk again; thankful for that). At this point, I changed professions and out of a desire to work with veterans, I returned to school, accomplishing all that was necessary to become a licensed counselor. I spent another career working for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, specifically as a counselor in the Readjustment Counseling Service (Vet Center). I recently retired from the Vet Center and now I work part-time here with Grow Therapy. As a retired Marine senior staff Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) and disabled combat veteran myself, the Vet Center was the perfect job. Vet Centers provide readjustment counseling to combat veterans and provide counseling to survivors of military sexual trauma (MST). Vet Centers also provide group counseling, bereavement counseling and couples counseling when this is determined to be of support to the veteran. Readjustment counseling many times consists of treating/addressing symptoms related to post-traumatic stress (PTSD), I.e., anxiety, depression, exaggerated startle response, hypervigilance, sleep disturbance, etc. Many veterans go on to work as first responders and working with many first responders as well as medical personal, has provided me with a great deal of additional experience.

What a degree in Clinical Psychology and a seven-year journey as a therapist has allowed me to is delve deep into the realms of trauma, anxiety, and depression. While these are my primary focuses, I also bring profound insights into PTSD, intricate family dynamics, relationship challenges, and concerns faced by the LGBTQ community.

Hello! I’m Sandra V. Chávez, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Registered Psychological Assistant with the California Board of Psychology. I’m passionate about helping individuals grow both personally and emotionally through client-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapies. As a first-generation Latina, I learned ambition, tenacity, and determination from my parents. My educational journey includes dual bachelor’s degrees in Liberal Arts and Sciences and Psychology, as well as a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. I’m currently on the path to becoming a licensed psychologist. Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a nurse and briefly attended medical school in Southern California. That experience deepened my interest in understanding the brain, human development, and the impact of environmental factors on behavior. I specialize in supporting clients through mood disorders, life transitions, and self-empowerment challenges. My strengths lie in helping individuals develop emotional intelligence, identify, and understand their emotions. I believe therapy should be tailored to each person’s unique needs, which is why I use an integrative, eclectic approach that draws from evidence-based methods and holistic practices, including mindfulness and positive psychology. I also enjoy working with individuals who incorporate their faith into their mental health journey. For those open to incorporating their faith as a tool for healing, I create a safe, welcoming space where spirituality and therapy work hand in hand. Above all, I value building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. My goal is to offer a non-judgmental environment where your thoughts and emotions are respected and where real progress can be made. Together, we’ll explore strategies, assignments, and tools that help you overcome life’s hurdles and achieve lasting personal growth and fulfillment. Let’s begin this journey together!

Hi. I am the daughter of immigrants which motivated me to study Multicultural community based psychology. I have worked in many different settings from community mental health to private practice. Currently I am the director of a consultation unit for youth and young adults in the foster care system. I really enjoy working with people on how to maximize their potential to create happier lives; sometimes this is achieved through more traditional therapy while other times this may require life coaching. I do not believe that therapy needs to be a continuous life long process, but rather a process individuals move in and out of at different stages of their lives.
