Hi, my name is Bjorn! In my practice I focus on helping my clients overcome obstacles to a healthier life by creating a safe, supportive therapeutic relationship. Therapy can go in many directions, but I primarily focus on helping clients to identify specific needs that they have, process difficult feelings, psychoeducation, realizing important goals for growth and how to achieve them. In the therapeutic process I share many tools to help with healing including awareness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, personality work, psychoeducation, and somatic therapy.
In the first session we will not only go over basic protocols of therapy, but also identify and clarify what your concerns, needs and goals are in order to create an initial treatment plan. This is also an important time where clients get to share what brought them to therapy, get a feel for talking to me, and ask questions if they have any. I have noticed that most of my clients find it easy to open up and share what brought them to therapy. My goals in the first session is for you to feel comfortable enough to talk and by the end of the session to be more confident that you can move in the direction of your mental health goals.
I think as a result of both my own life experiences my approach creates a unique space for the client to explore areas of their life that need attention, while encouraging them with questions to discover new insights into their situation. I feel one of my greatest strengths is my ability to help clients to see their problems in a new light that feels more manageable to work with and get beyond.
My ideal clients are adults who are working on specific issues or life transitions. This client is ideally motivated to understand or learn new ways to deal with their situation. I enjoy working with clients who are curious and open to change. Sometimes our situation can be difficult so It is important to have the right attitude or at least be open to the possibility of change and approaching challenges in a new way.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT to help clients understand and challenge limiting beliefs and behaviors which can create the changes they desire. By investigating our patterns of thought and behavior we are better equipped to make the necessary changes to affect outcomes.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
The implementation of mindfulness practices in my client's life helps to raise awareness and this is helpful to bring behavioral patterns from the unconscious level to the conscious level where they are more able to take new actions in their life. Mindfulness practice is also a great way to reduce stress and help find more balance in body and mind.
Existential
I have found that many clients can struggle with issues around purpose, identity, and mortality. By exploring and coming into a healthier understanding of our life through addressing existential issues we can find a deeper sense of peace and fulfillment in our life.
