New to Grow
Welcome dear. My name is Laura Nelson, Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The approaches I primarily utilize with adult clients are person-centered and holistic. Many of the afflictions we endure, are perfectly reasonable responses to the experiences, environments, and stresses of our daily lives. I work collaboratively with my clients to learn about their lived experiences and explore what therapeutic modalities might assist in alleviating indicators of mental affliction including depression or anxiety.
On our first session, we will meet each other as human beings. I will gently provide introduction and engage in rapport building conversation. It is my goal to learn about who you are and how to assist in your healing journey.
I use a straightforward therapeutic approach that offers humor and warmhearted conversation. My therapeutic style is person-centered and holistic. I meet people with genuine and authentic connection.
I work best with individuals who are committed to authentic connection in therapy. I enjoy working with clients who need coping skills and strategies for managing anxiety or depression. I work well with clients who need psychoeducation. I’m a straightforward therapist that enjoys working with clients who are willing to do the work and make changes. I enjoy advocating as well as teaching self-empowerment and self-determination on the clients part.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT offers a structured, short-term, and evidence-based psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while examining cognitive distortions and thinking styles.
Integrative
A whole person (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual) approach, rather than just symptoms, adapting techniques to improve therapeutic efficiency. Holistic approach incorporating lifestyle factors like nutrition, sleep, and stress management.
Trauma Informed Care
Trauma-informed therapy is a compassionate approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on a person's life. This practice acknowledges that trauma deeply affects how a person thinks, feels, and acts. It aims to treat the whole person, looking at the root causes of distress rather than just addressing the symptoms.
Strength-Based
Strength-based therapy is a positive, collaborative counseling approach that focuses on a person’s inherent strengths, resilience, and resources rather than their deficits or dysfunction.
Somatic
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that uses both psychotherapy and physical techniques to help release physical tension and emotional pain linked to trauma, anxiety, and chronic stress. It operates on the principle that the mind and body are interconnected and that unresolved trauma and emotions can become "trapped" in the body, manifesting as physical symptoms. By focusing on bodily sensations, movement, and breath, individuals can process these trapped emotions and regulate their nervous system.
