Hi, I'm JoAnn.
A client once said to me "I feel so heavy, everyday, it's like I'm swimming in mud". Many times people feel this way but they don't really know why. Everything is a struggle, even just trying to express a thought or a feeling.
It's so hard to feel happy and free or enjoy certain moments when mental/emotional struggles make you feel physically weighed down. Stress, anxiety & depression all have the capacity to make you feel unmotivated and downright exhausted before you even start your day.
It's important for you to understand the effects stress, anxiety or depression can have on you not only mentally/emotionally but physically as well. Let me help you work through those struggles so that you can feel free and enjoy life again.

My goal as a therapist is not only to help you address your current concerns, but also to equip you with practical tools and coping strategies that will continue to serve you long after our sessions have ended.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, respect, and mutual learning. While I bring professional knowledge and clinical experience to our work together, I also recognize the value of your unique experiences, strengths, and insights. In many ways, we are both teachers and students throughout the therapeutic journey. I look forward to partnering with you, honoring your story, and supporting you as you move toward the life you envision for yourself.

What if you could write the story of your life? The truth is, you can, you are in control of your destiny, you are writing the story of your life right now. The choices you make are directly related to the thoughts you have. That puts you in control, you have the ability to change the way you think, and when you change the way you think, you change your life.
The thoughts you are thinking right now are writing the story of your life. If you are not happy with the story, you can reprogram your thoughts to change the story and write it the way you want it to go. Together you and I can work to manage the challenges you are facing today.
Therapy may seem scary or even overwhelming, but with the right partner you really can change your life. Together we will explore how your thoughts and the dimensions of wellness are affecting your life and find a path to change the story of your life, to one of positive emotional and mental well-being.

Being a therapist is my first career. I studied psychology with a minor in Spanish for my bachelor's degree and have a master's degree in mental health counseling (which led to me becoming a licensed mental health counselor). There are many reasons I am well-suited to be a therapist but to begin, I am nonjudgmental, caring, empathetic, and open. I have also worked with everyone from infants and toddlers to seniors. These various settings help me take a holistic approach when working with my clients.

My seasoned expertise lies in helping adults and couples navigate through complex emotional life challenges while creating a safe space to develop coping strategies in stress management, depression, anxiety, intimate relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and grief. Life can get messy sometimes. Between work, relationships, family expectations, and just trying to take care of yourself, it’s easy to feel pulled in every direction. If you’ve been carrying too much or feeling weighed down by anxiety, stress, or old wounds, I want you to know you don’t have to go through it alone.
In our sessions, I show up as a real person—warm, attentive, and honest. I pay close attention to the little things, and I’ll share what I notice in a way that’s direct but never judgmental. My clients tell me it feels like talking to someone who truly “gets it.” As someone who understands the pressures of navigating multiple cultures, I bring that sensitivity into my work while welcoming people from all backgrounds.
Together, we’ll make sense of what’s been weighing on you and find practical ways to bring more peace, clarity, and connection into your life. Reaching out is a brave first step, and I’m here to walk with you through the next ones.
I am so glad you reached out for help! I am passionate about helping people navigate life's difficulties with compassion and empathy. I look forward to working with you and assisting you with living your best life.
