My name is Jeanice Lewis. Thank you for reaching out to me. I would be honored to help you through your healing journey, or whatever else it may be. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with 14 years of experience. I work with individuals and couples, ages 13 and older. I specialize in ADHD, anxiety, depression, blended families, self-esteem, spiritual guidance, postpartum, women's issues, veterans, military families, marital issues, premarital, adolescent issues, and trauma. I am Christian and see the value of incorporating it into therapy, but only as you are comfortable. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 14 years and have 5 children from all stages of life (toddler to a college student). On my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, doing mini vacations, doing crafts, going on walks and working out when I can, volunteering at my children's schools and activities, and spending quiet time with God. I give my clients a comfortable space to take their time talking and explaining their situation. I like to ask questions that lead down to a deeper understanding and come up with a solution and plan that they are comfortable with. I have heard of all types of situations and am non-judgmental. We can also schedule a free 15-minute call consulation so I can answer any questions and to see if I am a fit.
In our first session I like to ask about any past expieriences you may have had with therapy and how it went. Then, I get to the reasoning of why you are in therapy, and then identify the issue. From there, I like to get the whole picture, like how long it started, what triggered it, are there things in the past or with relationships that have contributed to the issue and so on. I then set small goals with you as the client, and progress from there.
What I bring to the sessions are my training and life experiences. I have wanted to be a therapist since I can remember. My brother had his own struggles with mental health growing up and I wanted to find a way to help him or people like him. Communication and coping with anger issues are something that I have worked on for a long time, especially since I feel like talking about emotions, gaining validation, and the way anger was expressed and dealt with was not a normal thing in my family. No matter what type of background you came from, we can always change the present and the future with intention and work.
I can work with clients who are willing to be open and take suggestions. I will listen to my clients and hope in return that they are able to get something helpful out of the session. I understand that sometimes clients just want to feel heard and validated, while some like getting feedback, like a soundboard, and some clients want actual homework and steps on how to acheive a goal. I enjoy working with all stages of life, but particularly with adolescents, young adults, married couples, divorced clients, co-parents, blended families, and veteran families.
CBT is utilized in my therapy as identifying the thought, emotion, and behavior, and turning them into more positive ones.
I identify what the issue is and how it affects the couple. I then dig deeper and help clients identify what they can improve on individually for the betterment of the relationship.
This is a therapy focused on a small amount of sessions with positive solutions to make changes quickly.
I utilize this for those of faith or thinking about incorporating God more into their life. I am a firm believer that the physical, mental/emotional, and sprititual health are all important to become whole.
The stages of grief are utilized and discussed and just having a steady journey to healing from this incredible difficult time of life.
