Hello and welcome! I’m Tammy Austin, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a passion for guiding individuals through life’s challenges towards a path of healing, growth, and authenticity. Trained as a psychologist (Ph.D. from Cornell University). Some 20 years later I earned a specialized graduate degree in Psychotherapy from Nova SE University, the only nationally accredited program in all of Florida. I am a fully licensed therapist in the State of Florida. I have taught psychology at Princeton, Tulane, Cornell, and Harvard Medical School. We will spend most of our time creating solutions, instead of analyzing problems. So often, therapy gets bogged down in the endless exploration of problems. Problems are the results of behaviors that didn't work for you in the past. Solutions flow from changes that will work for you starting right now. Solutions make your life better. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a background working with adults, adoptees, and trauma. My therapeutic approach revolves around building a relationship with my clients and establishing the core issue of what is a challenge for them by facilitating a place for them to be transparent with themselves, judgment-free. I have experience working with all walks of life and have held an assortment of different roles in the field working with social services, foster care, adoption, and healthcare. Hello there! I chose to become a counselor because I saw a gap in services for those from the LGBTIQA+ and neurodivergent communities. As a member of these communities, it was incredibly important to me that they have the same opportunity to receive quality, knowledgeable services as their straight, cisgender, neurotypical peers. As someone with a background in theatre, I enjoy bringing my creativity into session and believe that the arts can be incredibly healing. After receiving my master's from the University of Central Florida in 2020, I started my private practice and have continued to grow since then. I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. and hope to educate future counselors and conduct research regarding counseling practices for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ folks.
