As a licensed mental health counselor I believe mental health is just as important as physical health. My approach to treatment is holistic, multicultural, and collaborative. I want my clients to feel in control of their lives and be proactive in their treatment. Together we will help you identify the things that are holding you back and you will learn the skills needed to propel you forward. This journey is yours and I'm here to assist you in reaching your goals.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our first session will be getting to know each other. I'll be gathering information from you so I can get to know you and your situation better. We will go over questions about your history, concerns, and goals for therapy.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Building trust and respect with my clients is important to me. Mutual trust and respect are the foundation of a successful therapeutic relationship. We will work together to design your treatment plan and consider not only your mental, emotional, and physical well-being, but also respect your cultural identity, spirituality, gender identify, sexual orientation, and relationship structures (monogamy, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, etc.).
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
If you are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, women's issues, and life transitions (divorce/break-ups, dating again, moving abroad, empty nest, etc.), I can help. I respect all genders, cultures, religions/spiritual beliefs, lifestyles, sexual orientations, and relationship structures.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I’ve been using CBT for years to help clients identify and change negative thoughts and beliefs that lead to negative emotions and unhelpful behaviors.
Mind-body approach
The mind-body approach is a holistic strategy designed to reduce stress and promote overall well-being. It focuses on the interactions between the mind, body, and behavior to improve physical and mental well-being. Techniques that may be used are meditation, relaxation and breathing exercises, and movement based therapies like yoga, tai-chi, and pilates.
Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing helps clients to explore and resolve ambivalence about making changes. I use motivational interviewing to help instill confidence and motivate clients to make positive changes in their lives.
Psychoeducation
This approach empowers clients by teaching them about their diagnosis, treatment, and self-management, and helps to reduce the stigma associated with mental health. Tools used include worksheets, articles, books, websites, educational videos and other resources.
