Hi! My name is Shalom Adler ,and I am excited to be a part of the Grow Therapy team. We all want to live a meaningful and stress-free life, and while I cannot guarantee that you will not experience stress (we all do), I can help you navigate and cope with all that life throws at you. As the great psychiatrist Viktor Frankl says, “There is nothing in the world … that would so effectively help one to survive even the worst conditions as the knowledge that there is a meaning in one's life.” I have over thirty years of experience in helping, guiding and counseling individuals, couples and families. I treat everyone the way I would like to be treated, with respect, compassion, dignity and empathy. I have faced my own mental health challenges over the years, and this gives me a unique perspective that will help me help you. I will not attempt to model you in my image, but I will work as hard as I can to help you reach your fullest potential and overcome your own challenges. I will meet you where you are and evaluate your strengths and needs. We will work collaboratively to achieve your goals and aspirations.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I want to get to know you as a person, not merely as a client. Taking the courageous step to seek help can be daunting, and I will try to put you at ease and not overwhelm you. I will not ask you to share anything you do not yet feel comfortable talking about. The session is about you and you alone. I am calm, patient, empathetic and intuitive. I will give you my fullest attention without distractions, and our session will be a judgement-free zone.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have a place in my heart reserved for those who society has overlooked. The people who struggle in silence with shame, fear and hopelessness. I have empathy for those who feel misunderstood and trapped in a life not of their own choosing. My therapeutic approach is inter-disciplinary, employing the appropriate tools to the person and situation, but always using my empathy, intuition and experience to tailor my approach to your unique needs. I will treat you with empathy and respect, working as hard as I can to help you become the best version of yourself. I have spent the last 6 years working with a diverse group of clients who have struggled with addiction, childhood trauma and PTSD, sexual abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem issues and more. I bring that experience and compassion to my practice, and I look forward to helping all who come through my door or log onto the computer.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am genuinely interested in you, and what makes you uniquely you. Not just your struggles but also your triumphs, hopes and dreams. I will act as your GPS; my job is not to tell you where to go, rather I am here to guide you to the destination of your choice.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have practiced CBT throughout my career. I have seen it be very effective in helping patients overcome anxiety and depression along with substance-use disorders, social anxiety and phobias. I believe that if we can change the way we think we can change the way we feel and act.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

When we are mindful and fully present, we empower ourselves to stop ruminating and allowing our minds to wander down rabbit-holes of despair and helplessness. One can use these techniques in virtually every situation to enable you to cope with whatever is causing distress in the moment.

Trauma Informed Care

I have extensive experience treating people who struggle with addiction. Almost always, unresolved trauma is at the root of their struggles. Using an integrative approach of talk therapy, somatic treatment and Inner Child work, In have seen many clients overcome their addiction and live productive, healthy lives.

Motivational Interviewing

What makes you tick? What gets you out of bed in the morning? Let's explore what motivates you and build on that.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Rather than focus on the problems, let's explore what the solution might be. SFBT is a tried and true method of treatment that enables people to move on with their lives with a sense of purpose and confidence
