Hi there,
I primarily work in substance use recovery (abstinence and harm reduction) and trauma recovery. I also have specialized training in treating anxiety, depression, and sleep issues/insomnia. My treatment orientation is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts, however the foundation of my early training was Psychodynamic.
I have been trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation), and Seeking Safety for trauma treatment. When treating anxiety, I take a CBT, or exposure approach with skill-building. For depression I utilize CBT concepts, or behavioral activation with skill-building. For sleep issues, I work with the CBT for insomnia treatment model. These are just a few examples of treatment approaches I utilize. I am relational focused, which to me means finding a plan that works best for you, practicing cultural humility and not trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.
I look forward to working with you.
My goal as your therapist is to help you create a meaningful and enjoyable life. Whether you come to treatment to manage a pre-existing condition/diagnosis, or are looking to improve the relationships in your life; I am happy to assist you until you get to where you would like to be. He holds a Master of Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary, graduating in 2007. Benzion believes in a holistic approach to care, building a trusting and collaborative relationship with each client to foster hope and lasting change.
"I am humbled by the courage and vulnerability my clients display every day. I am honored by the privilege of being with you in your most intimate places to develop trust and build hope for the future. Thank you for considering the journey of building a better future with me."
I utilize a positive theoretical orientation which assumes that all individuals possess an innate desire for well-balanced emotional/mental health. I believe a person enters therapy with a strong wish, whether conscious or unconscious, to overcome obstacles and free themselves from constraints that are holding them back. I find that everyone needs a slightly different approach to accomplish these goals, so I adjust in technique for each specific challenge. I truly enjoy the experience of guiding my clients through this process and consider it a privilege to play such an important role in a person's life.
“Crying does not indicate that you are weak. Since birth, it has always been a sign that you are alive.”
― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
I have been in the field for twenty six years and have learned to adjust to what the client is presenting in the session to achieve a sense of safety. I work with what the client is presenting and focus on how to guide the client to work through their presenting problem. I have had a history of working with a variety of clients and cultures. I started working in a therapeutic community with at risk adolescents. I later worked with court referred gang members. From there I worked with the homeless and the LGBTQ Community on addictions. I opened a private practice in a more suburban environment.
Hello and Welcome!
Finding a therapist to work with is a challenging task. It’s time consuming. Finding the right therapist, a therapist that you believe is a good fit for you, is even more challenging. I’m going to tell you more about myself and my background to help you decide if I could be the right fit for you.
I take a humanistic and person-centered approach to therapy. In humanistic psychology the belief is that each person is a distinct, individual being. A humanistic approach focuses on understanding ourselves and our complex emotions in relation to the broader aspects of our lives including relationships, career, family systems, and society. In non-clinical terms, I believe that our life experiences help shape us and it’s important to understand how the emotions and thoughts derived from those experiences impact us in the present. It’s important to me that any prospective client knows that I value connection in the therapy room. I have always believed that the most important aspect of good or effective therapy is the therapeutic relationship held between therapist and client. If I want to help a potential client explore and understand complex emotions, thoughts, and experiences then it’s essential that they feel comfortable doing so. Taking a person-centered approach to therapy means knowing that each individual client will process and experience emotions in a different way. I will utilize different therapeutic interventions based on individual client needs because I don’t believe there is a one size fits all answer to progress.

Rebecca McWhorter, LCSW #87376
I believe therapy starts with meeting you where you are. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and individualized, focusing on what you want to work on rather than simply focusing on just a diagnosis.
I have experience working with individuals across the lifespan and from diverse backgrounds. My clinical experience includes more than eight years in an Enhanced Outpatient Program, where I worked with individuals experiencing complex and severe mental health concerns across a wide range of diagnoses. This experience taught me that every person is different and that therapy should be flexible and tailored to the individual.
I draw from different therapeutic approaches and adapt them to your needs, strengths, and goals. My goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, develop practical coping skills, better understand yourself, and work toward meaningful change. I have experience with most mental health concerns and diagnoses, though eating disorders are outside my primary area of specialty. Through Telehealth, I am able to connect with clients in a variety of settings and continue doing work that I find deeply meaningful. One of my guiding principles in therapy is that my advice is a direction to explore, not a fact that you have to follow. We will work together to determine what actually works for you. What helps one person may not help another, and I believe therapy should allow room to try different approaches, learn from the experience, and adjust along the way.

Hello there, thanks for spending the time to get to know me as a Therapist.
I would like first to welcome you to this interesting journey of getting to know yourself deeply and possibly understand the world around you.
First, I explore you, the problem you are facing, your environment, and your past to understand better what is going on. So, be aware, I will take some time on that. I especially want you to feel heard and understood first, to be in the same page before we move on to the next step. I was told to be very approachable and easy to talk to, even when I point out inconsistencies for us to gain broader insight into your situation.
Over the years of experience, I have learned that each of my clients brings a different theory that needs to be treated case by case. I use several different approaches and orientations, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Bowen Therapy, and Structural Therapy among many others. I have treated adolescents, women, men, couples, and families, and I have been treated at different severity levels. I have been successful in bringing out the best of you once you find your personal goals and place in life.
Overall, I am open to your needs and preferences in treatment plan and interventions, as long as it brings you back to your functioning and high performance.
I am a dedicated and highly motivated client-focused Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California. Therapy does not have to be dry, boring, or scary and it's okay to have fun in therapy. We all share in the HUMAN EXPERIENCE! So I may not have the same experiences as you, however, I know what feels like to make mistakes, experience hurt, love, loss, pain, and fear. I also know what it’s like to rebuild myself and have success again. Everyone experiences a range of thoughts, feelings, emotions, and situations that shape and mold us. Therefore, working with people in their time of need motivates me to help them find balance in their lives. (*If you are ordered by the courts to attend therapy, then you would need to find another clinician, as I do not do court-appointed therapy. Also, if you are dealing with suicidal ideations or self-harm, I do not specialize in that area and would direct you to clinicians who are best suited to assist you. Thank you for your understanding.

I have been practicing in the field for over a decade. I have specialized training in trauma, addictions, relationship enhancement, marital and premarital. I work with adults, and couples. I have a heart for seeing relationships thrive. I believe Love is Enough. I will walk along side you through transitions, hurt, pain, and making sense of the present and complex situations.
I started my journey into psychotherapy back in 2005. Over the years, I have learned a great deal regarding how much our lives are impacted by how we see the world, and what we focus on. I have learned that focusing on the present moment, and enjoying each moment for what it offers can be priceless. I have learned, and now teach others how to live mindfully, not in the past or the future, but in the present moment, as when we leave the present moment is when our suffering begins. I have extensive experience in trauma, and overcoming traumas, as well as approaching the world from a cultural perspective. Based on experience, I have seen that we see the world through the sense of our cultural forefathers, and therefore, sometimes we need to adjust our interpretation of what we see and experience. I have been amazed at the tenacity and strength of the human spirit, and I cannot disregard the presence of an all knowing, encompassing presence of a higher being in our lives. It is for this reason that I encourage patients to look at the world from multiple points of view. Sometimes changing the lens with which we look at the world, can make all the difference in what we see and feel.
