Welcome to my practice! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California with more than 20 years of experience providing individual, couples, and family therapy. My areas of expertise include depression, anxiety, anger issues, and self-harm behaviors. I want to get to know you and what might be happening with you that you are seeking counseling for. Most people come to therapy when they are in some type of distress. Sometimes this is conscious and sometimes not. If you are feeling powerless or distressed for some reason or grieving a loss in life, I would like to see how we can work in therapy. The way we work will depend on the issues you bring to therapy. I have experience with different approaches to therapy including but not limited to HUMANISTIC THERAPY (includes the importance of personal responsibility, and a positive, non-judgmental approach), STRUCTURAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (includes the importance of family structure and healthy boundaries), GOTTMAN (includes helping couples communicate better, resolve conflicts constructively, and create a shared sense of meaning), CBT (generally includes a short-term approach that helps you identify and change negative or unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior to improve your mood and overall well-being). All the above types of counseling styles point towards change or growth. Many times, there is a creative element to counseling and many times the counseling can give you more of a sense of purpose for yourself in life. Please see my calendar with Grow to sign up for an appointment today.

Being a therapist is a lifelong passion for me and is rooted in my dedication to supporting adults, children, families, and communities in building safety, resilience, and hope. My journey has taken me from my home county of Santa Cruz where I advocated and ran groups for youth living in situations including domestic violence to working in Oakland shelters for youth 13-21. I have worked in serving famillies with San Francisco Child and Family Services, where I partnered with families navigating reunification with their children while providing psychoeducation and crisis counseling during critical moments. I have focused my professional development around harm reduction and culturally focused treatment, aligning with my commitment to social justice and culturally responsive care.

Running Springs, CA - Accepting clients in CA

Hello! I'm Melissa. I love what I do! Counseling people is my life's work. Been doing it 20 years. Whatever you are going through, I can assure you, I've worked with someone who's dealt with something similar. I specialize in treating addiction, worked in 5 in-patient drug & alcohol treatment centers/rehabs in my career (mostly w/men). I have years of professional experience working with an array of issues and populations. I enjoy working with individuals and families. I have several years experience working w/teens, including those who grew up in the system, been abused, at high-risk, or with behavioral or learning problems. Clients feedback is reported as: I'm "easy to talk to," "friendly," "down to earth." I've been told I'm helpful & a "good listener;" that's important to me. I'm mostly solution-focused, meaning...I want to understand the problem, but get into the tough work of finding solutions as soon as possible. As a therapist, I have empathy, am caring, and invested in improving your life circumstances. I'm non-judgmental. I believe no matter how similar or different we may be, we can work together and develop rapport. We can start right away, opening lines of communication so I can understand where you're coming from and help anyway I can. My hope is to develop a warm, trusting relationship in which you feel comfortable, and heard. One of my favorite things to hear as a therapist from a client is, "exactly," because I know we're on the same page, and smile when a client says after session, " I feel much better." That's my aspiration, to help, get to know you. Please understand this is not just a job for me. I'm genuinely here for you! Thanks for taking the time to read this & learn more about me as a professional.

I am a psychotherapist, a meditation teacher, and an amateur naturalist. In my home country, I am licensed to conduct learning disability evaluations. My growing up was first-hand impacted by 3 very different languages and cultures. These cultures informed the style of my relationships and my esthetic preferences. For as long as I can remember, I have been mystified by human memory functioning, first as a scientist, then as a meditator. Having gone a long way from trying to remember everything I deemed worth remembering to a more effortless and drama-free attitude toward memory-creating moments, I am still making sense of what it means to integrate each moment of life as it comes. Approaching this subject experientially and relationally informs who I am as a practitioner and as a person. If topics like cognitive functioning, memory styles and focus make your curiosity antennas hum, this is a place for you. My approach to psychotherapy is highly relational and somewhat didactic. I love to explain everything I see and say at every step of the process. With me, you will never experience a blank screen characteristic of traditional psychoanalytic approaches (from which I draw inspiration in the realm of dream interpretation and theory).

My hope is that you’ll feel comfortable, supported, and truly seen in our work together. With 8 years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve worked with children, teens, and adults. I have met people from all walks of life — supporting them through life transitions, burnout, anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship stress, and the complexities of simply being human. I bring both clinical expertise and a deep respect for who you are as a whole person—including your values, cultural identity, and faith. As a Christian, I also love incorporating spirituality and prayer into sessions for those who desire that, but it’s always led by you and your comfort level. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you with kindness and walk with you through both the hard and hopeful parts of your journey—you’re in the right place.

When we experience severe trauma or life stressors, our lives can start to collapse into a day-to-day struggle. Our normal coping mechanisms and our support systems can start to fail or no longer be enough to help pull us through the difficult time. The truth is, we cannot change our life experiences, but we can search to find solutions to help us overcome depression, addiction, anxiety, relationship difficulties. We can grow and become aware of our own strengths as we face our struggles. Sometimes we need that extra help to aid us in regaining life balance in our journey of self-discovery. As a licensed family therapist with eight years of experience, I am passionate about helping adults navigate & explore complex challenges in order to work towards positive changes that are solution based.

Hello! My name is Scott. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California and truly have a passion for helping others to gain wellness. Nizhu here—licensed therapist, gym junkie, boxing enthusiast, and proudly ranked in the top 1% of MST therapists worldwide. With over 8 years in the field, I specialize in men’s mental health, trauma recovery, and motivational interventions grounded in strength-based and evidence-based models. Somewhere between CBT worksheets and trauma processing, you'll find a tattooed, bearded clinician who believes in the healing power of laughter, real talk, and showing up every day with purpose (and probably steak and eggs). I don't just do this work—I live it, with a Superman-level drive to help others feel seen, heard, and empowered.
