Gian Michael Sarabia worked in the education sector for many years and started a mindfulness action-research study with youth and families that had been exposed to various types of trauma. This further led to mindfulness integration in a variety of different clinical-therapy settings, from psychiatric hospitals to in-person and remote crisis response, which led to outpatient Telehealth with individuals from all walks of life.
During the consultation (or initial) session, individuals can expect me to listen mindfully as I conceptualize some of the mental health challenges. I will reflect back my thoughts about what is happening in relation to emotional-psychological concerns and suggest a psychotherapy approach that will dictate what client progress will look like.
I constantly use a mindfulness-based approach to psychotherapy. Moreover, I do have a good gauge of what symptoms are coming up, which may be rooted in various life circumstances. This allows me to articulate to clients the plausibility of what is happening as a way for clients to reflect on and build awareness around. As a result, I can offer a psychotherapy platform (e.g., CBT, IPT) for clients to process and progress towards their goals.
My preference and expertise is working with individual clients, 1-1, who have been exposed to considerable trauma, which have produced a complex psychological reaction (e.g., C-PTSD, personality disorders, and/or suicidal thoughts from major depressive symptoms).
I have extensive training in mindfulness via action-research, university training, and application of mindfulness in client psychotherapy sessions.
