I know reaching out for help is a big step, I appreciate you considering me to be part of your healing journey! I specialize in working with individuals with several needs, including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, mood disorders, life stressors/transitions, family dynamic struggles, domestic violence history, postpartum depression/prenatal/fertility issues, self-esteem issues, and trauma history. I am client-centered and want to work alongside you to establish goals that assist you with making progress towards a happier you! I strive to provide a safe space where we can collaborate and explore how to empower you.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working with adults to overcome problems with mental, emotional, substance abuse, spiritual, and or relationship conflicts. I gained my therapy skills via work in an Inpatient, Residential, and Intensive Outpatient facility focused on helping individuals with severe psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. I am the owner/operator of His Strength Counseling, serving individuals seeking faith-based counseling. I am a certified therapist specializing in Trauma and Personality Disorders. I have experience facilitating and creating groups and counseling individuals and couples. My 5 years serving in the United States Army helped me become more disciplined and culturally competent, with the ability to participate in multi-disciplinary settings.
My style is down-to-earth. It is my privilege and honor to meet you 'Exactly Where You are'. Your questions are as important as You are. You are a unique person, with your own unique strengths and talents. This is Your journey! Clients Tell me it's the insights, their epiphanies they gain from working with me that really helps them to reach their goals; their new skills learned; that are compatible with their personality and lifestyles. Which, ultimately supports and encourages their daily thinking from a new perspectives and insight. This empowers and motivates choices by recognizing the direct link to one's own values; which, are identified in session, and to become a self advocate.
As a therapist dually licensed in counseling and substance use treatment, I believe every person carries unique strengths, stories, and untapped potential. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your needs, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as CBT, EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and practical life-skills development. I’m passionate about helping clients understand how early experiences and relationships shape the way they see themselves, navigate challenges, and connect with others—and I’m continually inspired by the powerful ways therapy, supported by neuroscience, can help the brain and body heal.
Outside the therapy room, I find joy in traveling, lifelong learning, reading, and cherishing time with my friends and family. I’m also deeply connected to the mind–body relationship and believe that true healing honors both. And on any given day, you’ll likely hear me mention my love of animals—especially my beloved corgis—who remind me daily of the importance of presence, curiosity, and play.
Hello, I'm Erika. I hold a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University and a B.A. from Park University in Parkville, Missouri.
My approach to therapy is integrative and person-centered, utilizing various theoretical interventions to guide and treat each client uniquely. My varied work experiences include serving the community as a Child Protective Investigator with the Department of Children and Families, a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Department of Juvenile Justice, and a Discharge Planner/Mental Health Tech, and Utilization Review Specialist within a Psychiatric Crisis Stabilization Unit. I have provided outpatient, inpatient, IOP, PHP, individual, couples, family, and group therapy at both mental health community centers and addiction residential treatment facilities. Additionally, I have participated in both Drug Court and Mental Health Court practicing forensic psychology.
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, and ongoing life stress. I believe therapy should feel steady and purposeful — a place where you can speak honestly about what’s heavy while also making meaningful progress.
My style is calm, grounded, and direct. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you recognize patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we explore both where those patterns began and how they’re affecting your relationships, work, and sense of self today.
I integrate EMDR, CBT, and ACT to address the root of distress while also building practical skills for emotional regulation and clearer decision-making. I value depth, but I also value structure — therapy should not feel aimless.
I tend to work well with people who hold a lot together for others yet quietly carry internal stress, self-doubt, or unresolved experiences. I believe you don’t have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. When someone is ready to look beneath the surface, not just manage symptoms but understand and shift what’s underneath, that’s where meaningful change begins.
Greetings! I have been in the mental health field for about 20 years in various capacities and more recently dedicated as a therapist for almost the last 7 years. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker that has primarily served Arizona communities. My earlier training has prepared me for work with young children and families who have experienced trauma. I have also served adults, supporting older adult needs such as navigating life transitions, parent-child relationships, estrangement and relationship conflict. I also focus on anxiety, depression, grief, chronic medical needs/illness, such as caregiver fatigue, dementia/Alzheimer's, terminal illness, and women's health (from pregnancy to women's medical needs in older adults).
My main area of specialty is Trauma-Focused CBT. Lets use what you love! Moves, TV, Poetry, Music, Gardening, Pottery. We'll talk through your struggles, process your grief and your pain each week, but we'll also use your interest and passions to help us work through your pain. We'll always move at your pace and prioritize your comfort.
You're not coming here because you're damaged or broken, you've showed up to this point because of a strength so let's lean in together. It might be uncomfortable at times and it can be difficult to be challenged, but if you've come this far you believe in the process to some degree. Reach out, let's see if we fit.
My name is Thomas Barhorst, and I started counseling in 2004. In addition to having a small private practice shortly after I received my Missouri license in 2007; I have worked as a K-12 school counselor, in substance use treatment, in a residential treatment setting, in a community mental health agency, helping individuals with disabilities transition into the workforce, and helping graduate students manage stress in their professional programs (i.e. medical school, dental school, etc.). Recently, I have begun providing telehealth therapy after obtaining licensure in Arizona and California.
Outside of work, spending time with family and friends is important to me. I also enjoy stories, laughing, listening to stand-up comedy, cooking, playing sports like wallyball and ultimate frisbee on a non-competitive level, watching film noir and psychological thrillers, recently had the opportunity to take my car to a racetrack, and have played bass guitar in a rock band.
I’m a warm, down-to-earth therapist who believes that feeling safe, understood, and genuinely supported is the foundation for meaningful change. With over 15 years of experience across schools, hospitals, crisis settings, and community-based care, I’ve had the privilege of working with people at many different stages of life—from teens navigating overwhelming emotions to adults facing complex life challenges.
My background as both a counselor and school social worker has given me a deep understanding of how early experiences, family dynamics, and life transitions shape who we are. I’ve supported students and families through anxiety, emotional struggles, and difficult situations, and I carry that same patience, empathy, and advocacy into my work with all clients.
I’ve also worked in high-intensity environments—including crisis settings, alongside law enforcement, in hospitals, and with veterans, survivors of trauma and domestic violence, and individuals in eating disorder treatment. Because of this, I’m comfortable supporting clients who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to start. You don’t have to have everything figured out to begin.
In our work together, I focus on creating a space where you can be yourself without fear of judgment. I balance practical tools and coping strategies with deeper exploration, helping you not only manage what you’re going through, but also understand it. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to you—whether you’re looking for structure, insight, or simply a place to feel heard.
Reaching out for therapy can be hard, but you don’t have to do it alone. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, more confident, and more in control of your life.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 10+ years experience. I obtained a Masters in Social Work from The Ohio State University and specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy to treat symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, low self worth, past trauma and PTSD. Clients will gain new coping skills to challenge negative thinking patterns and learn how to adjust reactionary trauma coping styles. I value honest direct discussions in the therapeutic relationship and look forward to working with you.
I’ve been a counselor and a coach for a long time now and I have learned that to be our best, to truly make positive changes in our lives, we need to address the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. We need to fully integrate the emotional child, the intellectual adult, the physical body, and the spirit guide (soul). I believe that everyone is capable of, is in fact entitled to, a life of happiness, love, peace, and fulfillment. I utilize an integrative approach that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), empathetic listening, mindfulness, and spirituality.
Whether you are suffering from an acute mental/behavioral health condition or simply are seeking to make some positive changes in your life I can help. I have over 15 years of experience counseling adults, couples, and families in the areas of relationships, trauma, grief, addiction, stress, and general mental health.
I treat all types of mood and personality disorders including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and many others. I also coach in the areas of career, education, life balance, personal growth, and self-realization. Please reach out today.
Whatever you're going through, you don't have to do it alone.
