Hello, my name is Jamie and I am excited to navigate this journey with you. Working with individuals to help them understand and identify treatment for their mental health is my life's passion. I know how difficult it can be to have mental health concerns, and the guilt and shame that comes with the inability to navigate them alone. I strive to make clients feel comfortable and confident in themselves and their treatment. I can help by providing you insight and awareness into your mental health. I can help you build confidence and motivation towards life and living. I can answer questions and provide recommendations as needed. I can be a person that you can trust, and that cares about your future.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During my first session we will just get to know each other, discuss the presenting issues, and discuss treatment. I like to cater my sessions to the energy of the client, so the first few sessions are genuinely about building rapport, and discussing goals for treatment. I like my clients to feel comfortable and confident with the treatment they will receive with me. I also like to build rapport by sharing insight and understanding through empathy. I am also therapeutically direct with my approach, but in a manner that is supportive for your treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider is building rapport. I am a social person, with a lot of life experience, so I can relate to almost anybody. I have not met a specific type of client that I cannot work with thus far, and tend to have a popular following. My vast life experiences have allowed me to be able to relate to a lot of people, and I am also curious about what I do not know, so I like when clients can help teach me as well.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I work really well with individuals who are open to looking at, and embracing the positive. It is hard to see the positive around us at times, and I have a keen ability to bring that out for my clients. I have a well rounded understanding of the brain and how it operates, and I enjoy teaching neuroscience. I work well with individuals who are open to seeing their life and their existence in a new and profound way. I also can relate to individuals who are struggling to cope with daily life and are just barely hanging on. Negative intrusive thoughts? I have a great understanding of how scary that can be. I have several years in substance abuse recovery and treatment, as well as certification in addictionology. If it is causing a problem for you, I am open to discussing it as a possible addiction. There should be no shame with mental illness, but unfortunately there is still lingering negative stigma. I like to help people understand that we do not deserve to be punished for the life we were given.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I utilize an eclectic variety of treatment modalities, but specialize and maintain focus with solution focused brief therapy. It helps to navigate the therapy sessions in a positive direction and allows clients to recognize and use interpersonal coping skills that are personal to them. I have utilized solution focused brief therapy in all aspects of my previous working experience, and it has been effective for almost any individual.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is something I often utilize, becuase of the complexity of our brain and thoughts work. By gaining a better understanding of how our thoughts could be affecting our behaviors, then we can be active in making positive changes. I also hold various certifications in CBT treatment methods.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have certification in Dialectal Behavior Therapy, and utilize it often. It encompasses four principles: mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I utilize various areas of DBT with different clients based on presenting needs. I can also implement DBT as a treatment modality specific to personality disorders.

Trauma-Focused CBT

In my experiences in mental health it is rare to encounter someone with little to no trauma in their life. It is an unfortunate situation that affects a lot of individuals, so I do provide trauma focused therapy. This can involve processing trauma from the past, or recently, in a safe and therapeutic manner. By allowing clients to feel safe and process their experience, they can shift the way in which the incident is affecting them in the brain.
