Hi, I'm Robert Soucy. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor with 18 years of experience in behavioral health and addiction services. As a man in long-term recovery, I bring both professional expertise and personal understanding to the counseling relationship. I work with adults facing addiction, anxiety, depression, men's issues, LGBTQ+ concerns, self-esteem challenges, relationship difficulties, trauma, and major life transitions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and evidence-based, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, and other proven approaches tailored to each client's needs. I believe that healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. Whether you're seeking recovery, greater self-confidence, healthier relationships, or a deeper sense of purpose, I provide a safe, affirming space where meaningful change is possible. Together, we'll identify what's keeping you stuck, build practical tools for growth, and create a path toward the life you want. No matter how difficult things feel right now, I believe there is hope for healing, recovery, and lasting change.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, and that's completely normal. My goal during our first session is to create a welcoming, supportive, and judgment-free space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, the challenges you're facing, and what you hope to achieve. I'll take time to learn about your background, current concerns, strengths, and goals so we can develop a clear understanding of where you are and where you'd like to be. You are always welcome to ask questions and share as much or as little as feels comfortable. The first session is also an opportunity for us to determine whether we're a good fit for working together. By the end of our time, you'll have a better understanding of my approach, and we'll begin creating a personalized plan to support your goals. My hope is that you'll leave feeling heard, understood, and encouraged by the possibilities ahead.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

One of my greatest strengths is the combination of professional expertise and lived experience. As a therapist with 18 years of experience in behavioral health and addiction services—and as a man in long-term recovery—I understand both the clinical and personal sides of change, healing, and growth. Clients often appreciate my warm, nonjudgmental approach and my ability to balance compassion with honesty. I strive to create a space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted, while also being challenged to move beyond the patterns that may be holding them back. My approach stands out because it is highly collaborative and tailored to each person's unique needs, goals, and strengths. I draw from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing while focusing on practical tools that clients can use in everyday life. Whether you're working through addiction, relationship challenges, identity concerns, self-esteem issues, or major life transitions, my goal is to help you build hope, resilience, and confidence while creating meaningful, lasting change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

My ideal clients are adults who are ready for change, even if they're not yet sure what that change looks like. They may be struggling with addiction, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship challenges, men's issues, LGBTQ+ concerns, trauma, or major life transitions. Often, they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or tired of carrying the weight of their struggles alone. Many of my clients want to better understand themselves, improve their relationships, build healthier coping skills, and create more meaningful, authentic lives. Some are seeking recovery from substance use, while others are looking to gain confidence, find purpose, heal from past experiences, or navigate important personal decisions. The clients who tend to benefit most from working with me are open to self-exploration, willing to engage in the therapeutic process, and ready to take steps, be they big or small, toward growth. My role is to provide support, guidance, and practical tools while helping them discover their strengths and build lasting hope for the future.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help people understand how their thoughts, feelings, and actions affect one another. Together, we look at patterns that may be keeping you stuck and learn practical ways to respond differently. CBT can help with anxiety, depression, stress, substance use, and other challenges by teaching skills you can use in everyday life to feel better and handle difficult situations more effectively.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I use CPT to help people heal from traumatic experiences. Trauma can sometimes leave us feeling stuck with painful thoughts about ourselves, other people, or the world around us. CPT helps you understand these thoughts, work through them, and develop a healthier perspective. My goal is to help you reduce the emotional impact of trauma and regain a sense of safety, confidence, and control in your life.

Faith based therapy

For clients who would like to include their faith or spirituality in therapy, I can incorporate those beliefs into our work together. I respect each person's individual beliefs and never push my own views or religious perspectives. If faith is important to you, we can explore how it may provide comfort, strength, purpose, and guidance as you work through life's challenges. If faith is not important to you, it will not be a focus of treatment.

Gender-affirming therapy

I provide a safe, respectful, and supportive space for people of all gender identities. Whether you are exploring your identity, navigating a transition, coping with discrimination, or dealing with everyday life challenges, I will meet you with acceptance and understanding. My goal is to help you feel seen, supported, and empowered to live as your authentic self.

Motivational Interviewing

I use Motivational Interviewing to help people make changes they want to make, even when they feel unsure or conflicted about where to start. Rather than telling you what to do, I help you explore your goals, values, and reasons for change. This approach can be especially helpful for concerns related to substance use, mental health, health habits, and major life transitions. The focus is on helping you build confidence and move forward at your own pace.
