My name is Samuel, and I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who specializes in working with Asian/BIPOC individuals struggling with mental health, life purpose and life transitions. With over a decade of experience, I provide trauma-informed, culturally-responsive care in a holistic and humanistic way. This differentiates me from other clinicians in that I do not focus on diagnosis or "illness", but rather gear therapy towards growth, healing and meeting clients where they're at.
In our first session, you will feel deeply seen and heard and that someone finally gets you. You will begin to feel clarity, lightness and a grounded sense of positivity around your presenting issues. Working with me is not only a space to vent, but one where you will develop tools & awareness that will support you for the rest of your life. You will feel confident and empowered to navigate not just your current life circumstances but build resilience and develop tools for anything that may come in the future.
My approach is gentle but direct. I provide a safe, warm environment for you to be seen & heard, and guide you to become the best version of yourself in your relationships, career and life. My work often feels like mentorship in that this is focused on your growth and helping you take authentic, positive actions to improve your life. At times, we will spend the session unpacking stressful situations in your present or past. Other times, I will use specific modalities to facilitate emotional healing and release.
As a therapist, I’ve worked with children all the way to elder populations on anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, addiction, grief & loss and more. The past 4 years, I've focused on 1st, 2nd and even 3rd generation children because of my own journey growing up with immigrant parents in the US and the challenges associated with this type of upbringing. This can include navigating family expectations, bicultural identity, racial trauma, communication, awareness of & regulation of emotions, as well as learning to be one's authentic self.
Attachment-based therapy looks at the impact your relationship with your caregivers had on the formation of your relational patterns, sense of self and overall outlook on the world.
"The patient needs an experience, not an explanation." With Samuel, you won't just talk about your issues. At times, he'll use specific tools & techniques to help you process, release and shift the inner blocks you have.
One of Samuel's specialities is working with 1st, 2nd or even 3rd generation children of immigrant parents, and the unique challenges that comes with this type of family and upbringing.
IFS and "parts work" are essential to Samuel's approach, which focuses on integration and harmony between the different facets of our psyche and being.
Samuel is growth-oriented and non-pathologizing meaning he does not focus on diagnosis or "illness" but rather uses symptoms as a launching point to explore past traumas, heal and ultimately guide clients towards becoming the best versions of themselves.
