Hi , my name is Fennel Kpolie, I am a Licensed Clinical social worker. I received my MSW from Rutgers University, New Jersey in 2008, and have been practicing since. However, the last seven years of my career has been focused on working with adults challenged by Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder, empowering them to acquire helpful coping skills to manage their symptoms, and improve their daily functioning.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I will commence working on a therapeutic relationship by creating a safe place for clients to express themselves. I will ask questions to help me understand the presenting symptoms to include; onset , history and current presentation and functional limitations caused by presenting problems. Information about social, medical and treatment hx further helps provide helpful insight in the formulation of a concise case theory to facilitate effective treatment planning.

Given my years of experience, I can utilize a compassionate approach to provide helpful insight into maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that maintains symptoms and empower clients to reframe thoughts and engage in helpful behaviors that could notably impact functioning.

I am very passionate working with young adults who are challenged by anxiety and depression. I help them transform their lives by providing helpful insight into maladaptive thoughts and behaviors that maintains their symptoms, as well as equipping them with helpful techniques to decrease the intensity of their symptoms .

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized CBT as a principal treatment modality in all my years of clinical practice, to help clients identify, examine and reframe negative thoughts to enable a pragmatic view of stressors, and develop effective coping skills and problem solving mechanism. Helping client's achieve their desired level of functioning could involve the utilization of the following CBT techniques to include cognitive restructuring, guided discovery, controlled exposure, activity scheduling, behavioral activation, relaxation strategies, journaling and role play.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Utilizing mindfulness strategies I can get the clients to focus on the present moment. Client are typically trained in techniques that allows for a safe exploration of thoughts, emotions, sensation and their surrounding environment in a non threatening and non judgmental manner. Specific mindfulness techniques that are typically taught to clients to achieve this end includes; mindfulness breathing, meditation, body scan , mindful movement, visualization and guided imagery.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

The techniques of Acceptance and Commitment therapy are utilized to guide clients to accept challenging thoughts, feelings, sensations and internal experiences, with concurrent guidance to commit to value based actions. This makes for increased psychological flexibility by enhancing client's capacity to mange current stressors by focusing on long-term goals rather than short-term urges.

Motivational Interviewing

Techniques of motivational interviewing is used to establish and build a trusting relationship with clients, guiding then to focus on identifying specific challenges , while encouraging and providing the motivation for change. Clients are supported in formulating achievable action plans utilizing core principles of acceptance, partnership, compassion and evocation.
